Two masked bandits stopped C. C. Dry Goods owner Casey Cabool near Ave G and Houston St. They forced him to open the back door and safe, taking about 300 in small bills and 50 20s in cash plus a 3600 diamond ring. They fled on foot through an alley.

At least five fires burned unchecked in Northeast Texas Thursday night as forest blazes spread across 10 counties. The Texas Forest Service reported 40 to 50 timber fires in four days, with the heaviest losses near Marshall where one fire damaged at least two dwellings just outside the city limits.
