The Grand Opera House Company presents The Hand of the Midnight Sun and Lester Wallack's Rosedale at the Opera House on October 19 20 and 21. Miss Sadie Martinot stars Rose Leigh in lavish gowns while Miss Ethel Tucker and Percy Melden lead The Hand of Fate to a large audience.
Mr John Corbett of Gorham street wed Miss Katharne Crangle of Boston last Tuesday at St Cecilia's Our Lady in Back Bay. Ceremony by Rev Richard Barry. They reside now on Hosford Square and Corbett had formerly worked at the rectory of St Patrick’s church.
John F. McGovern departs yesterday for the World's Fair to be away three weeks, with plans to bring back souvenirs for friends. George Dunn to manage affairs in his absence. Mr and Mrs J N Moore of San Jose California arrived for a short visit. Moore formerly a Lowell resident, has been away twenty years.
Common Council, President Benson opened last evening with 22 members present. The council approved the upper board’s business and a drawing for acats listed multiple names including Benson, Dunlap, Thius, Kilpartrick, O'Neil, Barclay, Noble, and O'Sullivan among others. Benson and Kourk then changed seats.
Barles H Frost, 78, longtime dealer in watches, diamonds, jewelry, musical instruments, strings, and ammunition, operated from Central Street. He was known for Pine Watch repair and related services.
Lowell’s St Johns hospital plans a 40 by 26 foot three story annex costing about 100000 to expand surgical capacity. The new wing will house an emergency department operating suites etherizing rooms sterilizing facilities and a large pharmacy with three patient rooms on the second floor. The third floor will host the operating room for women and two patient rooms. Soapstone finished walls and modern equipment aim to match leading institutions.
The jury in the Michael J O Boyle case, fined $5 in police court for assault and battery, returns a guilty verdict. Reports say Mr O Connell will appeal to the Supreme Court on exceptions. Judge Dunbar begins civil trial today, then diverts to divorce cases. In Superior Civil court, Rockwood versus Robinson, a trespass case, is on trial.

James McKinnon arrived at St Johns Hospital after an accident in North Billerica. Surgeons amputated the right leg four inches below the knee and the left leg seven inches above the knee. He was reported as comfortable this morning.

Judge Hadley presided as six intoxicated defendants appeared this morning. James McHugh faced a charge of giving false answers to a stable keeper and was found not guilty. Other cases listed include John McEkengie for penniless support and Desire Ferault for assault against a wife with John Curley named in the proceedings.
Paris Oct 18 Field Marshal Maurice MacMahon Duke of Magenta ex president of France died yesterday at age 72. Born 1808 at Sully he rose from captain to general, won in Crimea at Malakoff, became Duke of Magenta after Magenta battle, and led at Sedan. His later presidency faced opposition, yet he abdicated peacefully in 1879 and lived in retirement. Also noted are a San Francisco arrest of Charles L. Fair on insanity charges and New York telegraphist William C. Cherry’s death at Bellevue Hospital.
A pleasant gathering of General U S Grant’s family occurred at the Fifth Avenue hotel to bid farewell to Mrs Nellie Grant Sartoris and her children as they sail for England on the Paris today.
Chicago reports Captain Adams underwent a one hour and three minute operation by Dr. Tallman and Dr. Verger to remove bone fragments from two war injuries. The patient, who arrived with his wife, stood the anesthesia well and should remain in his hotel suite for about three weeks before leaving his room.
Jacob Pehl, born in 1859 in Germany, died yesterday in Poughekeepbir New York. He was the oldest Grand Army of the Republic veteran in the United States and a member of Lamithua post 20.
At Brookline yesterday the funeral for David Hall Rice was conducted by Rev. Thomas with Rev. Dr. Taylor assisting and four Smeyser brothers singing. Gov. Russell attended with council members, Norfolk Club leaders, Stull Yacht Club officials, and a delegation of Odd Fellows. floral tributes included a governor’s floral casket. Interment was in Walnut Cemetery.

Mrs Mary Carey aged 70 was found unconscious in her Morris Street pantry after a Friday morning visit by her daughter. Autopsy showed cerebral hemorrhage caused by a bullet lodged in the brain, tied to husband Michael Carey a drunkard who was arrested after possessing the revolver used. The case rests on circumstantial evidence but warrants his arrest. Deputy Sheriff Jacobs secured a warrant after conferring with District Attorney Gaskill and headed for Bridgewater.

Emma Clyton niece of ex Senator Powell Clayton married County Judge W D Jones in Pink Bucurr Arkansas yesterday.
The Wellman Tron and Steel company of Chester employing 1000 men has failed. The firm is capitalized at 1 million dollars. In another item, the American Express company is investigating a robbery involving nearly 30 thousand dollars in money in transit between New York and New Orleans.
Striking coal miners in Macos Ar aemore held a meeting on November 18 and voted to return to work at old waves.

Walter’s paper with forged endorsements totaled eleven thousand dollars and he is jailed on bail.
Dates were set in superior court for two trials. Louis Dalenies charged with beating his wife to death was assigned for trial at the next term. Goxcomo Rossi the Italian accused of killing Thomas Corlan on July 31, 1892 was assigned for trial next week.
