Second Edition 5 O'CLOCK e THE SUN states it is the only Lovtr ell paper receiving Associated Press cables and telegraphic despatches. Most news items will appear in other local papers tomorrow if readers wait.
The No. 5 mine engine broke down this morning, disabling the ventilating fan and cutting air supply. Associated Press reports crews sent warnings by telephone, and officials fear many miners may not escape alive as the air collapse endangers the trapped workers.
Four condemned cattle were killed at Whithed's soap factory in Tewksbury this afternoon. The water board will meet tonight.
At Stickle Hollow mines near Willuincron, three miners died and 12 were wounded at daybreak amid a strikers and deputies confrontation. Reports later cited six strikers dead and eight wounded with deputies also hurt, and arrests rising. both sides fired as miners blocked roads and deputies charged.
Tom Callan of a stone team is at St. John's Hospital with a compound fracture of the left leg after being thrown from his wagon when his horse ran away. The accident happened early this morning on Fletcher Street near the North common as the cart hit an obstruction.

A large barn owned by C J Hood near the Andover cross road burned to ashes after a suspected incendiary blaze. Loss estimated between 15000 and 20000 with 20 cows 5 bulls 8 calves and one horse perished, calves saved. Insurance through H C Church & Son. Chief Hosmer and Lowell chemical engine aided, while a nearby old barn was saved.

A bridal party on Appleton street drew attention yesterday as an old shoe hung from the back of their carriage. Spectators joked that the shoe was thrown for luck and would bring good fortune to the newlyweds.

The Catholic Union held a well attended meeting last evening with a piano program led by Miss Jesse Downer of Boston. Boston performers Clark and Edward Kelley offered vocal and ventriloquism acts while Miss Lilla Cook and James Donnelly provided songs and a baritone solo. Two committees were appointed to field candidate names for the next meeting two weeks away, with plans for a sociable and an annual picnic to close the season.
Weather concerns may delay the high school drill scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. A testimonial concert honoring Prof. E. J. Borjes at the Opera House last night was a delightful affair with a strong program. The Madrigal Society and a Lucia sextet impressed, alongside orchestral pieces by the Orchestral Club and the Symphony Orchestra. The performance was superb, and attendees rued the small audience.

Boston May 24 The House concurred with Senate amendments to the license commission bill authorizing mayoral appointment of commissioners. It bans holding other public offices, allows removal by the mayor after a public hearing, and the rule was suspended for passage. The bill goes to the governor tomorrow.
The Abbott Greys association of Massachusetts Second Regiment survivors met at American House for its twelfth annual gathering. President J W Cook led a roster of officers re elected including James Francis and Richard Pendergast as vice presidents and W T McAlpine as secretary treasurer. Letters from absent members were read and the group recalled past service with supper followed by reminiscences.
