A child was playing in the street on Chelmsford Street when an electric car struck her this morning, badly injuring the girl. The conductor stated the victim was among children playing in the roadway.
A barn adjoining E. L. Chase’s home on Pleasant street Dracut burned early this morning. Firemen fought through a 1600 foot hose lay to contain the blaze in the barn and ell, saving the house. The three year old Chase child is blamed for starting the fire, which totalled the barn and damaged the ell, while furniture was moved to safety and the property is insured.
A city committee on education reviewed petitions for new schoolhouses in Middlesex Village and Centralville and a Bartlett school replacement. Aldermen Bagley Westall and Gordon and Rourke attended. The panel backed building two four room schools near the power house and Hildreth cemetery, with a Wannalancet street brick school proposed but defeated. A subcommittee will survey sites and costs.
The Superior Court heard Terrell vs Zittell with a $50 verdict for the plaintiff. Laker vs Campbell & Hanscom saw a $773.76 verdict challenged as excessive, with a possible reduction or set aside. Hartford vs Deputy Sheriff Stiles involved $2081.66 for alleged willful conversion, a new trial motion argued as against law and evidence. Motorman Connor says two children crossed ahead. Berry started and stopped, was hit by the running board, left thigh crushed, legs broken. Parents urged to keep children away from cars. The second death was John Lepper’s son, burned in a separate accident within 24 hours.

A large crowd gathered at a Suffolk street liquor saloon run by Councilman Collins after a prominent sign announced "Clam Chowder Tonight." Inside another sign boasted chowder served with beer as the owner rushes to fuel a restaurant bar room combo amid neighbors selling steamed clams to many patrons.
