The Associated Press reports from Glasgow that the Vigilant will race on the Clyde for the Queen's cup on July 7. The date and event are confirmed as the leading sailing contest on the river. Adjacent notes place the cup's prestige and the ship's early season schedule.
William Quan, 26, a New York native and cook for Barnum's Circus, died last night at St. John's Hospital following severe burns incurred while starting a tie at the Fair grounds on Monday. He was engaged in his work when the accident occurred.

In a police court session Judge Hadley presided as Councilman John Ryan faced assault and battery charges from Hugh Rogers. Prosecutor Chief Davis and counsel John W. McEvoy entered a not guilty plea. Case moved to July 6 with Ryan on his own recognizance. A separate assault case involved Constable McManus and Ferguson over a horse dispute, with Streeter and McManus arguing ownership. Ferguson not yet arrested and a witness horse may be summoned. Also, ten drunks were sentenced to the state farm for six months while Michael Welsh paid a $10 fine.
