The second edition notes that CLOCK EP THE SUN is the only pauper in Lowell receiving The Associated Press cable and telegraphic despatches. Most news items appear in other local papers tomorrow, awaiting wider publication.
The Sun reports rival papers issued alarming bulletins about a Raymond and Whitcomb excursion train wreck, which proved only a rumor. At 9:28 a.m. a despatch sparked fear, but by 11 a.m. official word contradicted the claim, exposing false reporting by competitors. The Sun defends its reliability and warns against sensational stories.
Officer Palmer raided a Williams Street house to find a jamboree with four drunk women led by Alice Duerdon Margaret McCarroll Alice Scanlan and Ann Mead. Duerdon sent to the workhouse for two months others fined. Hutchins jailed four months. Broderick case continued. Keefe found guilty on one charge and Annie Paul teen drinker continued two weeks. Herman King 11 years old sent to Munson school after mother sought reform.
The First Baptist church choir presented a concert featuring an Anthem by the choir with a duet by Mrs W H Pepin and Miss Nellie D Barclay, plus songs by Mrs F A Bowen, Mrs Pepin, Miss Annie C Cambridge, Mrs C W Johnson, Miss Maud McRae, Miss Lillian Lefevre. Violin solos were performed by Mr E C Lavigneur and a Lowell Ladies quartet trio with Miss Florence I Keating, Miss Martha Maxwell, and Miss Julia E Dutton, plus a bird song by a chorus of ladies.
Through Murphy's ticket agency, a group from Lowell and New York sails tomorrow. The Cunard steamer dcy hia carries A A Richardson Lizzie Richardson Roby Richardson Annie E Clay Percy L Clay Bridget Kiernan Rose Kiernan Ellen Donovan Martha Raycroft Mary Kane Annie Uorien Delia O Brien Annie McCrann. From New York the Paris steamer of the American line carries George Greaves William Daly and Mr and Mrs James Melamphy.
Last evening the Vermont Association hosted a sociable at Post 185 G A R hall. Strawberries and cream were enjoyed along with an entertainment program featuring songs by Mrs E G Russell and Miss Minnie Blake, readings by Miss Florence McMaster, musical numbers by J W Reede and Miss Minnie Lockhart, and duets by Mr Reede and Mrs Russell, with Miss Cora Leyford as accompanist.
The Interclub Tournament at the Highland Club saw the Highlands defeat Yoricks by 193 pins in bowling and win the billiard contest while Yoricks secured a tie in the pool series.
A tight match yielded a 16 pin difference after five strings with Kirby tallying 276 for B A A. Paulett 259 Sargent 253 Cleveland 258 Stewart 261 total 1307. Glendons Swift 265 Scede 259 Daig at 283 Dooley 270 Peters 237 total.
The Lowell Archdeaconry of the Episcopal church met at St. Anne's with Bishop Lawrence presiding. Officers and delegates from numerous towns were elected. Plans discussed to fill missionary vacancies. next meeting set for October at St. James, Cambridge. The diocese covers the state and is divided into archdeaconries.
Last evening Dr. Snyder received the official handicap list for two bicycle races at Riverside Oval scheduled tomorrow afternoon. The handicaps are of strong interest to all competitors and followers of the event.
Ward One residents press for Dummer and Jefferson street extensions and Broadway paving while seeking a new public school site. They cite slow committee action, desire a fire station, Maiden Lane repairs, and an ambitious Moorish style church design by Chase outlining brick work and domed features.
Plans by Boston architect W C Chase for a new Second Universalist church feature a Spanish 15th century style dome center with a vestibule on Princeton street and a vestry building. The auditorium uses columns forming a circle around pews facing pulpit and organ in the southwest corner with no plaster and cemented walls colored with decorative tile. The design includes multiple entrances, a two-story front chapel, a vestry with kitchen, stage provisions, infants class room, a girls parlor, and a church brick and Bedford stone exterior.

Ambulance Corps demonstrates pitching a 3-pole hospital tent in 6 minutes 10 seconds. Warden Bridges receives a marble French clock from Mass prison employees. Notable guests include Col Rockwell, Col Rand, Commander Waterman USN, and Maj Houston.
About 1000 people attended a baseball game yesterday between a local men’s nine and the country’s only female team. The female seven wore black blouses striped dresses and black caps and stockings and played the game like men. The score ended 12 to 11 in favor of the women with a notable two-base hit by the short-haired second baseman.
A large audience enjoyed a strawberry festival last night at the Y M C A hall. Supper was served by a committee led by Mrs. Farnham. Ice cream, lemonade, candy, and fancy tables were staffed by an all local group with Mrs. Brown as cashier and many volunteers assisting.
A 12-year-old girl named Bruce vanished after leaving home near the Fair grounds Monday to work at the Hamilton mill. Foss and Russell, two Suffolk street youths, left the city for Manchester then Lowell after spending a night at a police station. Inspector Allen arrested James Broderick for alleged larceny of carpenter's tools. John Flynn, involved in burglaries across cities, was sentenced to five years in state prison at the Essex county Superior court in Salem.
The Lowell Council Royal Arcanum set a ladies night for June 21 at a meeting last evening. One new member was initiated and five propositions were received. Speakers during the social hour included Charles W. Haworth and Dr Charles Landers, with remarks also by J P Coggeshall David Eugene G Russell G J Bradt and W M Sherwell. Vocal solos were offered by Robert Leatham Henry E Gray and Otis Crapow.
Lawrence June report states the McKay and Bigelow metallic heeler association’s employer received notice in pay envelopes of a proposed wage cut to take effect next Monday. Reductions range from 15 to 25 percent.

In the legislature yesterday Representative Bennett of Everett demanded an apology from Philip J. Farley for accusing him of circulating a circular. Farley sarcastically refused to retract, and the speaker ended the exchange by removing both from the floor for personal remarks.
Buzzard's Bay reports Mrs Cleve land and her children arrived today on Mr Bennett's yacht Oneida and went directly to Gray Gables. In Washington the grand jury heard the case of Edward and Schriver who refused to divulge confidential matters to the sugar investigating committee.
Associated Press dispatch from New York reports Dr. Meyer was sentenced to life in Sing Sing for murder. The ruling was handed down this morning following the trial, detailing the charge and conformity with state law.
Catherine Brosnahan aged 75 died last night at her Abbot street home. James Douglass aged 54 died yesterday at No 86 Prince street. John Shea aged 48 died last evening at his Lewis street home. Each was a prominent Ward One resident and member of the Lowell Irish Benevolent Society Division 1 A O H Holy Name Society and Court General Shields A O F. Funeral Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, McManmon florist Prescott Merr'kste.
Dr Heald returns from a six weeks trip to Panama. Major and Mrs Perkins visit Sharon Springs. Miss Grace Darling of Newark New Jersey visits Miss Julia Fiske at the Merrimack house.

Mitchells Boys School at Billerica Centre held its annual drill and entertainment, drawing large crowds. The State Board of Education, meeting at the state house in Boston, votes to inspect sites for four normal schools in North Adams Fitchburg and Lowell with a $100 000 per school budget and a total 1894 cap of 75 000. Fitchburg and North Adams have funds in, Lowell to raise a site.
The funeral for Police Officer David H. Goodhue was held this afternoon from his School street home at 2:30. Rev. Hugh Montgomery led services. The procession to Lowell cemetery included 65 police members led by the National Band and featured Masonic ritual at the grave. Interment was by J. B. Carter with officers Sanborn, Bumps, Moore, Goodwin, Holman, and Sgt. Kew as bearers. floral tributes included a four inch broken column from the Police Relief Association.
Dr M S Magoon of Springfield Mass says his daughter Lillie was held by John C Page in Dover for five weeks two years ago and again this week Page claimed Lillie in Rochester court for inducing a wife to leave her husband Lillie worked in Dover mills to support Page and is now home with her father Page is jailed
Rev Fr Burns of the Immaculate Conception church plans a June 20 departure from New York aboard the Red Star line for Europe. He needs a yearlong rest due to poor health after a period of illness and hospital confinement. He will first visit Belgium before continuing his journey.
Mr George L Robbins and Miss Annis M Senchy married yesterday at Immaculate Conception Church in a ceremony conducted by Rev W D Joyce OML Best man was Mr Joan McGowan bridesmaid Miss Minnie A Henchy attended. The couple will reside at 109 Bartlett Street. Also Mr Charles Dean and Miss Etta A Briegs of Lowell were married last evening by Notary Public Charles R Blaisdell at his office with many friends offering congratulations.
The funeral of Clara Lyman was held this morning from her Lakeview avenue home and burial occurred in the Catholic cemetery. Elihu J. Mills died today with services at 10:30 am at his Chelmsford Street residence. remains were sent to Great Falls, New Hampshire, for interment.
