Two trains on the Lackawanna railroad collided at Hackensack bridge this morning. Twenty five people were killed with eight houses already reported as recovered. A large list of wounded followed the disaster as telegraph reports from Jersey City detailed the chaotic scene and its fallout.

Simon Harris of this city has been appointed a state inspector for the Massachusetts board of pharmacy. He will tour drug stores to secure the names of “drageigis” who rely on registered clerks. A report on each pharmacist visited will be filed with the state board, which will act on them in turn. This has caused unease among many druggists about the forthcoming report. Morgan Murphy and Martin Sullivan were once pitchers for the Boston team, with Sullivan later signing for Chicago in 1837.
