A bold daytime theft in Lowell unfolded when a man smashed a jewelry store window using an iron weight and grabbed a tray of 20 watches valued at $340. The thief was chased, grappled by bystanders, and taken to the station as George Larrabee and others organized the pursuit. The watches were later recovered, with several damaged, and the suspect, William H. Bent, was arraigned on larceny charges and held for the grand jury.
