Miss Manning and Miss Florence Manning become the first women bicyclists in the city to wear bloomers as regular cycling attire. The dark blue outfits reach boot tops and fit tightly to show the leg contours, a style growing in popularity after Walter H. Howe introduced leg coverings for cyclists. A sunlit Foresters Day parade in Lowell features Chief Marshal John P. Bogers and a large regalia clad formation marching from Merrimack to the Fair Grounds. Refreshments were served and dancing continued late.
In Minneapolis on August 18, the sheriff's sale of the Minneapolis and St. Louis rail road is set for October 11. It will require about 4000 dollars to redeem the property. The Rock Island system is expected to place a bid.

Washington August 18 The senate judiciary committee issued an adverse report on the nomination of James D Porter to be United States judge for the eastern middle district of Tennessee. Terre Haute Ind August 18 New world records noted at the Terre Haute track where two year old colt Baron trotted 2:16 in heat two and Ryland T won the free for all with a last half in 1:01%. Alix is expected to lower Nancy Hanks record after 2:05% in the final heat equaling Directum’s mark.
Kansas City August 18 Judge Phillips issues an order authorizing New England Safe Deposit and Trust as trustees to sell 8 million dollars of Jarvis Conklin Mortgage Trust securities. A new company will be formed with 32.5 million capital stock. The Jarvis Conklin company was capitalized at 3.75 million.
Leynox August 18 The Times approves the acceptance of the senate tariff bill as an installment of the more liberal policy President Cleveland desires. There is no proof in the senatorial log rolling over the tariff that the strong free trade wave seen at the last elections has spent its force.
The Dallas Democratic convention nominated C. A. Culberson for governor and G. L. Jester for lieutenant governor with M. M. Crane as attorney general and A. J. Baker as land commissioner. BR. W. Finley would be comptroller, W. B. Wertham treasurer, J. M. Carlisle public instruction head, and R. T. Gaines as chief justice.

They adjourned with little achieved as eight White Republicans balked altering party discipline. Democrats plan a cautious fill of the finance committee vacancy, with White of California favored. Also, Mary Casey, wife of Peter Casey, died last evening at 0 Adams Court Church Street at 45. The funeral is set for tomorrow at 3 pm from her residence. interment in Catholic cemetery with Peter Davey in charge.
