The gallant 26th regiment led by Col Rice moved through Lowell on its way to Boston amid a 1000 strong crowd. Delays and slow trains frustrated townspeople as soldiers shared meals in transit and historic horses and flags accompanied the journey toward a hopeful welcome in Boston.
At midnight the trains carrying the 26th regiment U. S. V. and its baggage left Plattsburg barracks for Boston as the initial leg toward the Philippines. Headquarters officers and troops began the long voyage with delays noted in Plattsburg N Y dated Sept 6.
Counsel for Boston creditors filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition in New Haven citing liabilities of 5037.63 for Warren C. Blake of Marlboro and Herbert L. Barton of Middletown. Assets not listed. Related petitions filed in Massachusetts and Rhode Island under Blake and Barton names. The Old Ladies' Home board meets Thursday at 3 PM.

North Chelmsford county commissioners opened bids for the superintendent's house at the truant school and awarded the contract to William H. Wiggin of Lowell as the lowest bidder at 4782.50 dollars. Other bidders included Chas P Conant 5286 Ex G Twohey 6236 Whitter and McDonald 5287 E W Douglas 5697 Woodward and Hall 5626.
Adjourned probate hearing on the late Mary Roach was reopened at the Lawton court house. Witnesses John J. Hogan Dr S J Johnson and Philip P Brown examined for petitioners. Hearing continues this afternoon and tomorrow.
At a county adjourned hearing on Andover street widening engineer Kendall presented a revised plan. Abutters attended and C I Hood plus others supported either plan while Tewksbury selectmen offered no objections. Joshua Daniels protested lines affecting his historic wall and requested clarity on who pays if property is altered. Frank H Farmer raised a tax misstatement point, and the meeting adjourned to Cambridge next Tuesday for final decisions.
The Young Men's Catholic Institute staged a successful midsummer carnival at Columbus park adjoining the Immaculate Conception church. 500 Japanese lanterns lit the grounds while the Lowell Military band performed. Performers included Miss Hattie Fox, Loretta Rourke, James Duddy, Mr. Coughlin, Mr. Shea, Mr. Paine, and Mr. Murray with Arthur McHugh as accompanist. Grace Mylott served as matron. Annie King and Julia Burns oversaw ice cream. The event was led by General manager Thomas McGinn, assistant Joseph Todd, floor director Chas. Smith, and committee members Farley and others.
Quinn, Burns and Mylott headline a social dance night with general dancing after the musical programme. The carnival aims to raise funds for the new convent in connection with the Immaculate Conception church.

Francis Mc Quade and Charles Dolan were arraigned on breaking and entering and larceny. Dolan held on $600, probable guilt noted. McQuade found probable guilt for breaking and entering Michael Sheridan’s store. several cider bottles seized. Liquor keepers conti nued for Sept. 13 and 16. Reynolds held on $100. Cameron fined for supplying a speakeasy. Others fined for drunkenness from $5 to $6.
William Murphy of 7 Andover Street and employee at Middlesex Manufacturing was found unconscious at his post at the factory this forenoon with a bloodied mouth from a chewed tongue. Dr Burnham attended and he was rushed by ambulance to Lowell hospital where he quickly recovered.
The Maggie J Chadwick of New York went ashore on Petit Manan Beach near Cherryfield Maine. The vessel lies where it struck with the keel gone and a hole in the bilge. Attempts to signal the revenue cutter Woodbury failed so a St John tug was summoned. Owned by C W Crane of New York the schooner is valued at $6000 and is uninsured.

The Rockingham County Republican club annual meeting was held at the Casino Hampton Beach. Speeches were delivered by Henry W. Blair C A Sulloway Henry B. Quimby Henry M. Baker and William EB Chandler. Chandler praised Republican policy in New Hampshire and national issues and endorsed the administration Philippine policy. He announced a list of questions for Senator Mason of Illinois to answer at Tilton Grange fair tomorrow.
