Pittsburg Oct 10 a 17 year old boy Charles Cawley of Homestead Pa harmed his mother Belle and sister and fatally injured four other children while under mental strain from patent air brake work. He overpowered brother James and was turned over to police. Police reported the axe attack left five dead or dying.

In Wakefield on Elm Square Mrs. Carter and her children escaped unharmed when a 2.5 story house and adjoining barn burned early this morning. Eighteen cows perished, $360 cash and about $4000 in losses, largely covered by insurance. A lamp explosion in the kitchen and a kicked lantern in the barn are suspected causes. Mrs. Carter, widowed last year, had supported the family with a milk business. Neighbors aided the effort as flames swept the property.
