A highly contested finish between Shamrock and Columbia kept spectators in suspense as results poured in this press edition. If Columbia wins the cup, the victory will belong to us.
New York dispatch details a sailing duel as the Shamrock and Columbia battle for lead across 15 miles to windward and back. Through changing breeze, Shamrock gains early advantage, then Columbia closes, with the two yachts neck and neck into the final stretch amid shifting wind and tactical tacks.
The notice advertises a bank offering five dollars per annum, general banking services, and foreign exchange in multiple currencies. It highlights safety deposit boxes with private rooms, a savings department paying 3 1/2 percent per annum compounded semi annually, monthly interest start, and a ladies banking room. It notes inclusion as a depository for the United States and Massachusetts.
Antonio Momino, 24, Palermo native, is jailed at the Tombs on a murder charge in the Sept. 17 killing of Joseph Scricchiera, 25, an Italian fruit peddler at 432 Commercial Street near Witts Street and Standish Place. A 38 caliber revolver was found on the victim. Momino was tracked through Providence and New York before being arrested at Back Bay station with lawyer James F. Sweeney present.
A large Havana protest gathered bankers, manufacturers, merchants, and business leaders to urge U S duty cuts on Cuban products in a bid for reciprocity. About 19,000 to 15,000 participants marched to the palace to meet Gen Wood as a general holiday was observed. Telegrams from cities nationwide supported Havana merchants and annexation sentiment was evident.
In Santiago de Cuba on October 3 more than 8600 men from all sectors joined a citywide demonstration organized by the chamber of commerce to present a memorial to the military government calling for reduced American duties on Cuban sugar and tobacco. Business halted for the event, the largest ever seen in the city.

Boston October 4 The Social Alliance led by Theodore W Curtis plans a petition to commute anarchist Leon Czolgosz death sentence to life imprisonment. The Boston group aims to discuss social problems and has not secured signatures yet.
London dispatch notes British press unanimously congratulate the United States on the triumph of the Columbia and concede Shamrock is out classed on all points of sailing.
George C. Hays was found guilty of a murderous assault on his wife and a policeman. He claimed to be in a somnambulistic state at the time of the incident.
Charles H Ham received 16 days in Lowell jail after another fall into an officer's arms. Maggie McGann faced three months with no leniency as Judge Hadley warned she had went too far. Thomas Riley of Plymouth was released on promise to return home. Harriet Busbee won freedom but four months went to the workhouse for her. John Connors placed on probation with sobriety condition. Hugh F McDonald fined six dollars. John Ward settled two dollars. P J Riley case postponed to October 12.
A sorrel horse weighing 950 pounds and a red gear box buggy were found at the Highlands on Sunday morning, awaiting an owner at the police station. The team was located by authorities and is being held for identification.
A still alarm reported a small fire in Donahue's block rear at 348 Bridge Street shortly after 1 15 this afternoon. The chemical company was summoned and the loss was slight.
Disease continues to spread as this week records 30 diphtheria cases, eight of them reported today.

The gathering adopts permanent officers, committee rosters, and a platform pledging loyalty to Roosevelt and a strong gold standard, with broad economic and imperial policy support.
In a remarkable police court tale, P. J. Riley voluntarily buried himself up to four feet on his Tanner street property to block a Merrimack Paving company move. Deputy Sheriff Eveleth, with 35 company men and police, sought replevin to remove a car with a smooth paving plant. Riley resisted, a crowd watched, and the scene ended with him barricaded as the track was buried and the car blocked.
