Two crewmen Patrick Powers and Mike Corrigan were instantly killed. the Picands was damaged and leaking. Whalen's crew were brought to port by the schooner Harry J Belden. The Whalen carried a cargo of fish from South Channel.
General Leonard Wood governor of Santiago de Cuba reports to Washington after arrival on the Michigan. He says he does not know why he was ordered to report. Hobart’s death is mourned. Santiago’s condition improves with contented workers and rising hopes for mine development boosting island prosperity.
London reports casualties in the Graf Pan Enslim engagement show heavier losses than anticipated. Total deaths and injuries reach 198, amid Methuen's second battle, with the Yorkshires and naval brigade bearing the brunt of the fight.
The Emperor and Empress of Germany and their party departed Sandringham this morning for Port Victoria. They bade farewell to the Prince and Princess of Wales and other royals at the station before boarding the imperial yacht at Port Victoria.
Severe weather forced the vessel Victoria to turn back 200 miles from Manila. Fifty five horses died in their stalls and many more were badly bruised and likely to die. The ship remained undamaged.

Richardson was named trustee for three years.
The tax cases resumed at noon with the court reserving decision on whether the company books must be produced at hearings. City solicitor Qua questioned Agent Thomas to separate figures from estimates used in valuing the corporation. Tremont bookkeeper Chadwick testified earlier in the day.
The Young Women's Christian Association asks friends to bring Thanksgiving offerings by Thursday morning. A $5 contributor becomes a sustaining member, $1 a regular member. Secretary Smith of the board of trade reports that yesterday he sold the American Bobbin and Shuttle mills at Ayers city to Upham and Thayer of the Equitable building Boston. They represent a concern manufacturing wood specialties with a large foreign and domestic market and will occupy the plant at once.
Twelve drunks appeared in police court this morning. Edwin A. Brown received one month probation. Emil F. Anderson John Simpson Louis Miller Joseph Davis Anne Rooney and Fannie Sargent were fined five dollars each. Alice Fenton, repeatedly troubled by drunkenness, was placed on probation twice in a year and will serve four months in jail. Annie Johnson’s case was continued. Mary Farrell released. James H. Gaffney charged with breaking and entering and larceny was tried and jailed for drunkenness after a prior indictment. George Lavalle settled after pleading guilty to removing baggage. Michael Harrington pleaded not guilty to drunkenness. evidence showed intoxication, and he will go to the State farm.
State board of health chemist Goodnow visited Pelham to collect Beaver Brook water samples for quality testing. He will also sample Forge Pond and assess treatment options. The water board may consider changes after Prof Harrington's report, possibly including river water if needed, though that would be unpopular due to sewage concerns from Manchester Concord and Nashua.
Lowell benefit societies with unlimited death benefits were notified by the state insurance department to amend their bylaws to comply with a new law passed in the last legislative session. The statute allows continuance if death benefits are $200 or less, while larger plans face separate legislation, and many societies with small memberships can avoid changes. The required change is to cap any death benefit at $290.
Milk producers of Lowell and nearby towns met Monday afternoon at the board of trade rooms. R. S. Fox chaired, with N. L. Penney of Dracut as secretary. A motion to issue posters urged farmers to attend a future meeting in December at 9 AM, with details to be designated later.

A blaze last night in Tewksbury destroyed the house and barn of John Geeson near Hood's farm. Frank Clark, a 26 year old resident with a roaming history, was run over by cars near Worcester on a Monday night. He lost both feet and is described as simple minded. He lived with his mother and two sisters at 40 East Pine street in Lowell. He had been away since spring, last heard from in Indianapolis, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
Agent Davies of the Watch and Ward society obtained search warrants in Lawrence and removed five hicker-in-the-slot machines from saloons and hotels. The machines, described as living picture repro ductions, were taken to the police station as authorities review the case and no complaints have been served yet.
In Ward 4 the caucus announced results at 5 30 this morning with 886 ballots cast. Councilmen votes: Markham 84 Donohoe 442 Casey 868 Roark 204 Clancy 127 Mahan 228 Hurley 105 Farley 188. Overseer: Gilbride 351 Gorman 279 Sheehan 240. School committee James E Donnelly unanimously. A recount was needed for Casey and Roark after the first count showed Casey ahead by four.
Tonight at First Trinitarian Congregational Church on Dutton Street the final travel lecture by Mr Robarts Harper of London covers Monte Carlo with lantern views and lantern display noted as remarkable. An organ recital by Chas Allen precedes the talk for a half hour attracting both Orthodox and non Orthodox audiences.
The Congregational club will meet Monday evening December 4 at the Pawtucket church. Sidney St Fleet will play an organ recital from 6 to 6 50 pm with a dinner at 6 20. The discussion topic is The Responsibility of the Citizen for Good Municipal Government. Speakers include Governor Roger Wolcott of Massachusetts and Arthur Wellman of Boston, Alfred I Rose of Lowell. Apollo Male Quartette will sing.
The J C Aver company provides every head of family in its employ with a fine Thanksgiving turkey. It takes 63 birds to supply the remand. Turkeys were delivered so workers need not carry them home.
In the afternoon a decree nisi was granted in the case of Fred Robinson vs Minnie Robinson of Lowell, and also in the matters Stone vs Stone Drake vs Drake Currier vs Currier and Sars vs Sars before Superior Court Justice Stevens.
An early morning crash on Gorham Street involved an electric car and a milk wagon. A boy driving the wagon suffered bad bruises but kept going home, not seriously hurt.
By mutual agreement the regular meeting of the school board was postponed last night as there was no business of special importance and the Democratic members were interested in the caucuses.
Catharine Heaps wife of Henry Heaps died November 27 at 2 percent West L Street aged 28. Grace L Getchell of 15 Elliscourt Pawtucketville died yesterday at 44. Mrs Mary E Kimball widow of Moses F Kimball died November 37 at 32 John Street aged 75. Henry F Edwards, brush maker of Lowell and West Andover, died yesterday at the Washington Tavern after a brief illness. He aged 51, survived by wife, one son and five daughters. longtime Lowell resident formerly of West Andover.
The funeral of Catherine Duff was held yesterday with six bearers and floral tributes. Rev Fr Saunders and Rev Fr Renan conducted the services at St Peters and the grave at the Catholic cemetery. Leon Trembley’s funeral was from 505 Market Street with mass at St Josephs and burial in St Josephs cemetery. Owen Glynn’s funeral was from his Tewksbury home with burial at St Patrick's cemetery Lowell. Grace Getehol to be buried Pawtucketville. Death notices list Johnstone at 188 Pleasant Street, Henry Edwards of West Andover, Neil B Brannan of 47 French Street with services at 2 pm on respective dates.
