Lowell encampment No 17 I O O F held a largely attended meeting last night to mark its anniversary. Remarks were delivered by the district grand patriarch and his suite and Grand Senior Warden Towne Col Royal S Ripley ex Mayor John J Pickman P C P Bearce Chas Thompson P C P Henry Carroll C P Wannalancit encampment Waldo Sargent H P Wannalancit encampment and other fraternity members. Geo H Frye acted as toastmaster and presiding officer.
A morning blaze at the Baldwin hotel and theatre causes about a million dollars in losses with four believed burned to death. Gillett's Secret Service company loses all. The hotel was crowded but guests are accounted for while servants are missing. The fire raged through the upper floors as the city glowed with flames and the building stood as a raging furnace.
Paris November 23 Today's postponement of a joint session of peace commissioners is seen as a hopeful sign that the American treaty draft may be signed. Madrid has received enough to instruct its commissioners to retire if needed and Americans expect Spain to acquiesce and sign before Monday. A Spanish commissioner says next meeting will be Friday or Saturday with Spain's final answer.
Daniel W. Getchell of Mansfield an engineer for the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad was arraigned on a manslaughter charge stemming from the Sharon collision of August 21. An inquest placed responsibility on the engineer and he was held for the grand jury in $2000 bail.
Madrid announces in the Official Gazette the decree accepting Marshal Blanco’s resignation as captain general of Cuba. After a cabinet meeting a minister stated no definite decision on peace had been reached.

Judge Aiken presided over two contested divorce cases today. Both involve libellants, mainly women, alleging cruelty or desertion. Sanders v Sanders from Watertown received a decree nisi, with C. W. Cushing for the libellant. O Leary v O Leary also granted a decree nisi.
In Hadley Court ten drunks appeared. Four released, two fined one dollar, one five dollars. Larceny cases for Albert Gremier Peter Costello and Geo P Dow were continued to Friday. James Smith and Emma Bedlare pleaded guilty to fornication. Smith got three months, Bedlare 17-year-old sent to Sherborn reform school for one year. Kinlan jailed three months for larceny. Marty Quinn fined fifteen dollars for assault and battery, appealed and held two hundred dollars for superior court.
Vina Reddan aged 15 years died yesterday morning at 19 South Whipple street. She leaves a mother Mrs Catherine Meddan and father Michael a foreman at the Lowell and Suburban car sheds in Lakeview avenue, and two brothers John foreman of the Nashua and Lowell sheds in Nashua and Patrick a line man for the Lowell and Suburban railroad, and three sisters Misses Mary Catherine and Annie Reddan.
Funeral services were conducted for Thomas Dolan at his late home on Market Street with bearers including Robert Gookin and Michael Leonard. Margar et F Tucker also honored in Collinsville with bearers such as William Cullinan. Lieut Edward W Thompson's service on Wentworth Avenue drew many from local groups led by Rev W A Bartlett, with G A R Post 185, Royal Arcanum, Knights of Honor in attendance, and interment at Lowell Cemetery.
James Constant was arrested around midnight following an alleged drunken disturbance in a Charles Street court tenement. He is accused of striking Mrs. John Christiansen with a piece of wood, pounding her on the head.

Mr Bernard W Kearney a noted contractor and Miss Katharine Agnes Gannon of North Billerica were married at St Andrew's church. Various Gannon and Kearney family members attended with out of town guests from Roxbury Boston Brighton New York and Providence. The couple received many costly presents and began a brief wedding tour after a morning reception.
Mr Thomas Sheehy and Miss Agnes Keyes wed at 7 pm in St Patrick's parish parochial residence with Rev John J McHugh officiating. Best man was James Sheehy and bridemaid Mary Keyes. A reception at 372 Broadway followed then a wedding supper and a brief honeymoon. Guests included many from out of town.

President Charles E Adams of Lowell reelected for the ninth consecutive time at the state board of trade meeting, amid cheering. Hon E H Shaw’s condition unchanged at noon.
