Sympathy from the principal and teachers of a Boston school accompanied the deceased's relatives from Brunswick. A young man converted through the late Mr Harvey brought a spray of flowers and requested burial with the remains. A brother echoed the request. flowers placed in the casket. The committal service at Woodlawn cemetery was conducted by Rev. Dr Bates.
Royal S Crane a prominent New York lawyer and brother of Magistrate Crane died Saturday morning at his Yonkers home after a brief illness. Born in Lowell Massachusetts he joined Clinton’s and White’s law offices and recently was named a referee in bankruptcy by Judge Brown. He leaves a wife and one son. Veterans urged support for T G Little for the council.
A special meeting in the Odd Fellows' east room heard ward and precinct committee reports and discussed candidates' records and veteran positions. Enthusiasm centered on Comrade W. H. S. Hayes, noted as author of the Veterans' Preference Act, with the league pledging to work for Hayes's nomination before caucuses close Thursday night.
Inspectors Donaldson Goodwin and Atkinson entered 9 Middle Street at nine this morning and found a bartender selling whiskey. They saw a man with liquor on the counter and 10 cents, and the bottle was handed to them. No other liquor was found. the case goes to court tomorrow.
Funeral services for Rev Frank B Harvey pastor of the Winchester Methodist church drew hundreds to the Winchester church Tuesday afternoon as the building proved too small. The service was led by Rev Dr Joseph H Mansfield with addresses by Rev Cassidy Bates Phinney and L P Bates. Organist Miss Helen Armstrong. Family requested no singing. Bearers were four ministers and 28 former parishioners from Forge Village and Graniteville attended. Floral tributes included a harp from the Winchester parish and a Graniteville society tribute. Epworth League presented a silk scarf inscribed Our Pastor. Resolutions from local churches were read as well as youth societies. The family has received more than 160 letters.
An agents meeting was held today to discuss the Textile Council request for a wage advance. There was informal discussion but no action was taken.
City Solicitor F W Qua urged the superior civil court to compel Tremont & Suffolk to produce its books in the tax case now heard by a special commissioner. The corporation’s counsel argued the books would reveal nothing and might be dangerous. The hearing continued with witnesses testifying on power valuations and costs, adjourned to Tuesday. Judge Stevens reserved his decision.
Last evening in Acton street Chelmsford two men held up Miss House a 20 year old who was walking home from the city She resisted and escaped then Leonard Wright aided her home They later identified two suspects who fled The incident followed by an assault involving Wright earlier in the night.
The Morning Mail accused the police of punishing three patrolmen for drunkenness, but the Mail’s claim is denounced as a falsehood by Superintendent George R. Davis. Since 1899 only four officers faced discipline. all names were released to the press, and recent punishments were confirmed to a Mail reporter.
In Collinsville the carding and picker room staff received a wage increase of 10 to 15 percent, catching workers by surprise after weavers recently sought a raise and faced postponement amid threats of a strike. Also in Boston a 65 year old woman named Sarah White, of Lowell, was found wandering the streets and was taken to Chardon Street home.
Police Court led by Hadley j disposed of seven drunkenness cases. The Millmore case for alleged false pretences was continued to December 1. Several liquor cases were further continued. T G Little pays a large tax vote for him, he will not squander the city's money.
