The piece notes Banco victims and Kansas mortgage holders view the Lowell savings bank as a safe place to recover funds and earn a little more, contrasting with wider distrust in financial swindles and speculative schemes reported in the era.
A London paper cites Dr. Emmens as able to turn silver into gold via a mechanical treatment with English chemists endorsing his methods and a French chemist backing the result. Emmens plans a machine pressuring 8000 psi to yield 50,000 ounces of gold monthly while exploring other metal transmutations. New York reports Martin Thorn and Augusta Nack back on trial for the William Guldensuppe murder. A crowd filled the building as a new witness, Ida Zeigler, testifies about Nack seeking a cottage at West Farm to host Guldensuppe. Judge Smith fell ill with malaria. Justice Maddox presided.
In Boston harbor this morning the two master schooner F A Pike of Calais Maine collided with the steamer Menemsha and sunk at once. The Pike went to the bottom while the crew were saved. The vessel was valued at 2500 dollars and was uninsured.
Baltimore November 21 two Baltimore & Northern motormen Theo dore Merrick and William F Horner died after a head on collision on the line Merrick disobeyed orders Horner died minutes later Conductor Thomas Ewing Charles Snowden and three passengers were injured but not seriously on the north bound Horner car three others on the south bound Merrick car suffered minor injuries B F Snowden was the passenger on Merricks car Merrick 20 lived on Clifton street Horner from Reisterstown
In Boston on November 21 Antonio Solmanie a 27 year old Italian attempted to mediate a dispute between two fellow Italians at Bernado Pitchons house on South Margin street. Acquaro drew a revolver and shot Solmanie in the abdomen then fled. Solmanie was wounded with little hope of recovery as police investigated the case.
At a meeting of the Prescott National Bank of Lowell on Friday November 19 at four o clock p m the directors adopted resolutions expressing sincere regret at the death of their late associate John W Abbot of Westford They extend sympathy to his family and note the loss of his pleasant companionship and valuable assistance in bank affairs.
The board resolves that directors attend the funeral in a body and that the proceedings be entered on records. A copy of the resolution will be sent to the deceased's family.
Commonwealth v Donovan et al was argued before Chief Justice Field and the full bench including Knowlton Morton Lathrop and Parker. The defense sought to quash the indictment and challenge verdict harmony with evidence while exceptions from the trial were discussed. District Attorney Wier represented the Commonwealth. E A Whitman and J C Burke defended the defendants.
In a Police court session before Hon. Samuel P. Hadley, twenty two drunken defendants received fines and sentences. Frank McLaughlin paid $38, several others were fined $5 to $10, with some sentenced to workhouse five months, state farm six months, jail six months, or reformatories. Lizetta Lambert paid $20 for fornication. Frank Rigney received five months for purported theft of two laws. Etienne Remon was acquitted of assault and battery on Louis Lang.
The Hayes owned team was taken Friday night at Tremont and Moody, a new Sawyer carriage with Concord style and rubber tires, dark green color, drawn by a seven-year-old dark brown horse with clipped foretop. The wagon held a brown rubber cover, red and yellow street blanket, lap robe, and 300 Old Hundred cigars.
Each team in the Highland club billiard tournament has one more game to play, the last to be played Friday evening. Teams One and Five meet Monday, Teams Two and Three, the leaders, play Wednesday, and Teams Four and Six square off Friday.

Yesterday at Eliot Congregational church marked Hospital Sunday for Lowell General hospital. Rev. Dr. Greene preached on Psalm 41:1, urging aid for the poor and praising the hospital as a charity addressing present needs. The church netted 225 from the fair. further offerings supported Thanksgiving dinners for the needy. Evening services featured a special chorus and organ-boosted music.

Mrs Catherine Davis aged 76 dies at home 7 Lyon street leaving two nephews George B and William F McKenna and a niece Mrs John Baxter. Mrs Lydia Brooks wife of James W Brooks dies at home 44 West Fifth street aged 77 leaving husband two daughters Mrs Lucian K Geach of Towell and Mrs John B Sawtelle of Pawtucket present during illness.
Nellie Holden’s funeral was held at 4 p.m. Sunday from her parents’ home at Murphy’s yard 50 Fenwick street. Burial followed in the Catholic cemetery under C. H. Molloy, with St. Patrick’s parochial school pupils James Mane Michael Lemming Edward White John Crowley William Ambrose Walter Queenan among the hearers.
