In Fairbury Nebraska on November 17 a jury awarded $5000 to the estate of W. H. Hambell in a suit against Rock Island Railroad Co for a wreck near Lincoln five years ago that killed Hambell and ten others. Hambell rode on a pass and had signed a waiver of damages. The railroad argued the wreck resulted from malice in fishplate removal by George W. Davis, now serving a life term. The case will be appealed.
New York November 17. A match between champion Jim Jeffries and James J. Corbett was arranged by Corbett and W A Brady. Articles to be signed Tuesday. No date set. Jeffries will decide. Brady said Jeffries would fight Fitzsimmons 30 days after Corbett Jeffries result if Fitzsimmons agrees to 65 percent of gross receipts.
London November 17 The Derby Cup race at the Derby meeting today was won by Lord Eidsmere's Proclamation with Invincible II second and Lexen third. Tod Sloan and Lord William Beresford rode Dominic II while L. Reiff rode Charina for Mr Covington.
Lipton's yacht Shamrock, after sailing from New York on the 2nd and sighted near Fayal on the 10th, was sighted in Glasgow today. The vessel is expected to arrive Sunday and will winter at Gareloch in Scotland.
Frank McConnell of San Francisco Poly delivers a decisive win over Jimmy Handler of Newark in a 16th round bout. The New York report praises McConnell as a clever fighter whose offense and defense echo Kid McCoy.

John Mcnahon paid 8 dollars, David Welch was remanded to the state farm after multiple drunken incidents, and John Martel was fined 3 dollars for bicycling on a sidewalk. Bazil Gregory faced a 50 dollar fine and 300 dollar bond after an illegal liquor sale charge. Gregory appealed. Antonio Dutra’s case continued to Nov. 25. Harris Camiles’s case involved an alleged sale on Suffolk Street with witness Annie Johnson. Judge Hadley dismissed the complaint in that matter on humane grounds. Fred Livingstone paid 75 dollars for liquor keeping, with appeal to superior court. Fidroussa Coutre’s non support was placed on file. John Papajohn withdrew an appeal after a four month jail sentence.
Mrs O Leary of the Day Nursery and Agent C F Richardson of the Humane Society thank the Courier Citizens company and Lowell citizens for clothing and support for the destitute children of the late Mrs Georgiana Webber. Many offers came to shelter them but all were provided for on the first day of aid. One resident drove in after nine to offer a home for at least one child.
A fire broke out in a cottage at Fourth Avenue and New Mooty Street Pawtucketville, triggering box 76 at 6 50 am. Owner A J Cowen was at work and Mrs Cowen away. no one occupied the house when the alarm sounded. Fire likely started behind the chimney in the rear of the dwelling.
The partition and attic fire were checked by the department before breaking through the roof. Much plastering was torn out to reach the blaze leaving the house badly smoked and water damaged. Freda C. Church held the insurance on the furniture.
The Mohair Plush Cricket club held a grand concert and ball at Prescott hall last night from 8 to 1. About 75 couples formed the grand march after the concert, with the Excelsior orchestra providing music and officers including General manager Rylah Firth and floor director George McElroy coordinating the event.
The will of General Charles Williams of Manchester N H public Thursday leaves the widow all household goods horses carriages and furnishings of the family residence on Wilson hill. To his widow and daughter Mabel Pickering of this city are left the homestead on condition the daughter's interest is not alienated during the widow's lifetime. They also receive use of the deceased's interest in Smyth's block on Him street with the executors to reduce the incumbrance to 15000. Mabel receives the cash legacy of 5000.

The first distribution of reserved seats for the recitals this season occurs at Odd Fellows hall Monday at 10. Honoraries will select two seats for the season after initial seats for sale by auction. Honorary tickets are on sale at Austin's music store, 19 Bridge street. Caroline Gardner Clark soprano, Josef Adamowsky cellist, Gertrude Edmonds contralto, and Marquarie of the Boston Symphony have been engaged. Season tickets cost $3 and admit two with reserved seats.

Three candidates for the Republican mayoralty dined at Alfred E. Rose’s Andover Street home in a harmony dinner. Attendees included Wilson Putnam Biayes Bennett Thompson Poore Chadwick. The Rev. Robert D. Sproul D D died in Freeport Long Island at age sixty three from cerebral palsy He was born in Alleghany Pennsylvania and graduated from Washington and Jefferson College He served as pastor in Rochester New York Providence Rhode Island and Greenpoint Long Island before retiring last April due to ill health.
