New York courts opened the Thorn trial as Judge Smith presided at 9 30. Lawyer Howe urged retaining 11 jurors with an extra juror added and evidence read. A recess was ordered for consultation, then a new jury was chosen and summons for 200 salesmen issued.
Boston November 12 The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court overruled the exceptions in the murder case of John O Neil sentenced to death for killing Hattie E McCloud at Shelburne Falls January 8 The court held the conviction legal and the death sentence valid
Attorney Eugene Deuprey, counsel for Theodore Durrant, arrived from Sacramento to personally deliver to Warden Hale a certified copy of an order delaying Durant's execution. Durrant has been convicted of murdering Blanche Lamont at San Francisco.
Mrs Rhoda Angus an aged passenger on a south bound overland train in California deteriorated into violent dementia and was sent to the Supreme court for examination as to commitment to an asylum. She was en route to Springfield Massachusetts.
Washington November 12 The President will issue a proclamation suspending collection of discriminating duties upon Mexican shipping upon proof that no discrimination is practiced against American ports.
Despatches from Madrid confirm that the competitor prisoners will be included in the general amnesty decree to be issued soon. The report ties Havana and Navy to the announcement, indicating a broad presidential pardon scope.
