In Paterson New Jersey on November 6 Vice President Hobart is slightly weaker after a fairly comfortable night. He fully realizes the end is near and his condition remains critical with no major change overnight.
London on November six reports the Queen donated a thousand pounds and the Prince of Wales contributed two hundred sixty pounds to the Transvaal war fund.
Ex-President Benjamin Harrison, returning from Paris where he advised Venezuela before the Anglo-Venezuela arbitration, arrived aboard the St Paul in New York with Mrs. Harrison and their baby. He spoke of a stormy crossing, illness, health concerns, and a brief chat with the Kaiser in Germany, noting no remarks would be made on that conversation. He stopped briefly in London and described the Chamber of Commerce dinner as private.
The report notes a falling out with Mr. Choate is unfounded as Harrison asserts continued friendliness and praise for the official in government work. The Catholic Association held memorial services for deceased members on Sunday. At 1 PM attendees from L Association Catholique and Garde Dhonneur gathered at St. Jean Baptiste with Fr. Fournier leading the Libera and the Third Order of St. Francis choir providing responses. About 300 parishioners in cars followed to Edson and St. Joseph cemeteries for prayers at Rev. A. M. Mrs. J W Marsh of 24 Dane Street Boston placed an advertisement in a Sunday paper seeking her adopted daughter Lulu B Marsh who disappeared from Lowell about three years ago. Lulu, then about 18, was educated in Lowell schools and later left with a man in Fall River. she sent a note claiming marriage and departure. Mrs Marsh, now frail, recalls Lulu’s musical upbringing and social ties, and hopes the ad will reunite them.
In a recital of her tale Mrs Marsh mentions several numbers during her testimony but does not specify the extent of the property she now owns. The fragment reflects her cautious account while detailing prior claims.
The coming municipal election in Boston is keenly watched as a mayoralty contest links police and license control for six years with two-year board control beginning June. Republican hopefuls include Senator Putnam and ex-Alderman John C. Wilson. Col Chadwick’s candidacy appears dim. Bennett and Hayes unlikely contenders.
