New York voters queued at 6 am as heavy early turnout surpassed expectations. Police fortified ferries and rail hubs to curb fraud with 50 arrests overnight and more than a thousand officers deployed. Officials reported numerous resignations among deputy election staff while precincts operated swiftly under vigilant supervision.

Mrs Margaret Thoits mother of the Yewksbury lad denies that Helen Riley was badly hurt. She says the girl was at school Monday as usual. The boy reportedly had a pistol but no ammunition. it was given by another boy, says his mother.
At a trustees meeting on Monday night the Odd Fellows Temple voted to close the Temple theatre. Michael Murray had previously withdrawn from the venture after losing a considerable sum. Also announced is a Vermont cows auction set for Thursday at 1 p.m. by C. H. Clapp & Co. on Cushing Street.

Isabella A E Welch aged 39 was found dead in bed at 24 Chambers Street this morning. Officer Sparks notified, Medical Examiner Irish called. Dr Welch signed the death certificate as heart disease noting prior heart trouble and good health Monday.
A horse and coupe owned by Keefe and Horan ran away near Appleton National Bank at ten this morning. Frank Hanchett of Hanchett and McFadgen sustained a four inch scalp wound and regained consciousness after doctors dressed the injury. driver John Fagan suffered arm and head bruises and was treated at the hospital. Hanchett resides at 89 Harvard street and Fagan, a Kesse and Horan driver, lives at 22 Williams street.
Burglars entered the Talbot residence from a rear piazza door left open Monday night and stole a small quantity of silverware from a dining room closet. The break was found early morning as servants discovered wide-open doors and scattered furniture. James Doyle heard dogs barking around 2 am, possibly when thieves searched the house. Chief Martin Conway was notified.
A police court session featured judge Hadley coaching Lillian M. Pease a neglected two year old as she wrote her name and spoke of schooling. The girl was committed to the State Board of Minor Wards for care until age, while other cases included larceny, drunkenness, and a busy docket of drunks.
