Born October 13 1840 in Chester County Pennsylvania he served in the 11th Ohio Infantry and the 1st Ohio Cavalry rising to major after notable actions at Cleveland Tennessee. He later studied law, practiced, edited the Tribune, then served as probate judge and later district judge of Hennepin County.
