William Buckley remains in a critical state at St. John's Hospital after a fall from staging at the Fifield company works on Saturday. Doctors say recovery is doubtful but he is holding his own as of now.

Washington May 1 Dewey cables say ten members of the Yorktown boat crew including Gilmore are prisoners at the insurgent headquarters. Officials continue the investigation and seek confirmation of the report.
Sixty prospectors from the Copper River report tales of privation and death. Many show frostbite and scurvy with leg injuries from exposure. One prospector walked on stumps of both legs, another with only one foot.
Boston observes Dewey Day with flags and receptions, business suspended, and school programs. Essex club and Pine Tree State club host events this evening featuring speakers Secretary Long Captain Evans and Captain Wildes among others.
Justice Bookstave of the supreme court dismissed the writ of habeas corpus for Roland Molineux accused of murdering Mrs Adams. The prisoner remains in the tombs while the grand jury considers issuing another indictment.
San Francisco May 1 troops at the presidio stand ready to respond at a moment's notice to Governor Stuenberg of Idaho. They are to assist in quelling riots at Wardner and preserve order. Miles has directed obedience to any call from Gen Merriam.
Denver May 1 Maj Gen Merriam commander of the department of Colorado and aide have gone to Wardner Idaho to investigate the miners strike. He was sent because he is nearer the seat of trouble than Shafter who is in San Francisco.
In Skaguay on May 1 the Chilkat Indians marched twenty armed men to Rocky Point and compelled white residents to flee. Troops were dispatched after reports that opponents of a new Klukwan trail incited the trouble.
On May 1 in Cleveland Ohio it was reported that about 4000 mechanics gained higher pay. Machine molders carpenters plumbers iron workers and brick masons all saw wage increases averaging 10 percent.
Washington May 1. Otis cables say Captain Rockefeller of the Ninth Infantry has been missing since Friday and is under investigation near Caloocan. It is feared he has been captured.
In Lowell Superior Court this morning the jury awarded Lois R. Frothingham $1269.62 in the land damages case Frothingham v City of Lowell. The action challenged the widening and extension of Claire and Oliver Streets as a public project.
Hogan appeared for the plaintiff as City Solicitor F. W. Qua defended. Vader versus Mercier charged with conversion of property. J F Owens represented the plaintiff and J J Harvey the defense as the trial began.
The Allen homestead on Woburn street Ballardvale occupied by Capt Bennett Ives and his two daughters burned after 6 am Sunday. Fire blamed on a defective chimney, started in an attic, wind carried flames to the main house. The barn was saved with a loss estimated at 6000 covered by insurance.
The board of health met at noon to bury William D. Ruckledge whose body arrived from Santiago. A public burial later in the week was deemed dangerous and burial is set for 5 o clock this afternoon. A military funeral for the dead soldier will be arranged for next weekend in Lowell.
The Tewksbury grange held its meeting in vestry hall on Friday evening with visitors from Pelham Dracut Westford and Andover granges. Grange Inspector Rice of Leominster attended. A bountiful supper was served under the direction of local hosts. A harvest drill led by Miss Susie Whittemore provided lively entertainment.
In Massachusetts the Bay State House license was withheld due to a dispute between proprietor F P Douglass and the board. The Lincoln House was refused a license, while licenses were granted to Worcester Brewing Company Exchange Hotel and the Douglass Club, with a change of management expected to restore Bay State House’s license.
Mr. Henry B. Proctor, about 75, of Chelmsford, was thrown from his wagon this forenoon while turning his horse out of a neighbor’s yard. He was carried home on a stretcher. The physician thought no bones were broken but could not yet judge the full severity of injuries.
The Highland Women's Club invites members to a tea on Tuesday from 3.30 to 5.30 featuring a lecture by Mrs. Alice Freeman Palmer. A regular club meeting follows on Wednesday at 3 with election of officers.

Rev Mr Bartlett reviewed Joseph Parker's sermon at Kirk Street Church last night praising his Bible centered approach, noting Parker's willingness to speak out on public matters. He argued true sensationalism lies in truth and urged ministers to apply the ten commandments with fearlessness to awaken the church.
The All Saints Church altar featured tulips and lilies as the sermon discussed Rev 10 5 6. Time is a condition of created things not eternal. God dwells in eternity and experiences an eternal now. Temporal life serves to redeem time and seize opportunities to fulfill God’s purpose until time ends.
Rev. H. W. O. Millington preached on Acts chapter four. The pastor highlighted the apostles boldness and lack of formal learning, noting the Holy Spirit gives courage in danger and that true boldness comes from God not human wisdom. The audience witnessed a charged reflection on faith under pressure.
Reverend Geo H. Johnson spoke at John Street church arguing happiness relies on knowing and doing. He urged embracing study and reading, yet warned knowledge alone fails without practical application and obedience to the Bible and Christ’s guidance.
Rev S T Ford delivered the closing sermon in the Evolution of Christianity series at First Baptist Church. The message titled Lift up your eyes and look urged listeners to broader spiritual vision for the era ahead.

George F Howes was named deputy of Starr King lodge U O G C of Lawrence, and Otis R Parker of Worcester to Emulus Thompson commandery of this city.
In this city and nearby towns several residents are reported to have died in late April. The list includes Charles F. Emerson aged 56 at home on Westford street, Sophia Newell aged 53 at St John’s hospital, Margaret Pendergast aged 65 at 9 Dummer street, Ida Page aged 38 at 685 Merrimack street, Martha A. Symonds aged 60, Mary A. Dooley aged 72 in Dracut, and Eliza S. Crossen infant daughter of John and Mary Crossen at 599 Central street.
