A string of weather and health quips sweep through the pages of the Globe-Democrat and Boston Herald. March's lamblike promise fades into slush as families battle colds with patent medicines. References to Easter, electrocution, and political quips punctuate the light verse and editorial snips.
A police court session arraigned thirteen men on idle and disorderly charges before Judge Hadley. Dineen and Maloney did not appeal. others faced varied outcomes including fines, continued hearings, or reformatories.
A gang attempted a bank robbery at Medway Savings Bank at 2 this morning. They blew the vault but fled without taking any loot after the explosion alarmed them. The office was wrecked and no clue exists. Authorities suspect the New England gang active in the past month.
New York reports a third body recovered from the Windsor hotel wreckage this morning. A badly mangled female of about sixty, small stature, with limbs missing, was identified by a black silk dress. Pieces of bones and various small items, letters and jewelry were found overnight.
An erecting gang from the Pencoyd Iron works will depart for Africa to construct a bridge across the Atbara river near Khartoum. The span is seven sections totaling 1100 feet and the contract requires completion in seven weeks.

Baines presided over insolvency matters. adjourned first meetings included J. S. and J. E. Greeley Michael J. Murphy and others. Trustees named include Charles M. Williams for Covura and Lucius A. Derby for the Stephenson family, with creditor claims totaling about 115,000.
The 69 year old Lowell machinist Charles H Young living at 249 East Merrimack Street is described as demented after a prior $750 loss. His ill brother Artemas S is hospital bound while Young, widowed with stock in Carpet Shaw Stocking and other firms, is judged in need of a guardian and removal to proper care.
Police sweep hits barroom loafers as warrants linger. A former bartender with repeated drunkenness charges has moved between saloons, prompting Supt. Davis to vow future arrests of all loafers. Neighbors report deserted streets and fear of police action.

A young Singer company employee at the post office identified a man as a thief involved in a local spate of sneak thefts in Lowell last Saturday. Police were alerted but the suspect had already fled by the time Inspector Allen arrived.
Rose Holden, once of Lowell, arrested in New York for a badger game attempt, with a 11 year old girl found in her custody. The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children seeks guardianship and facts about the child s parentage. Holden is tied to aliases Mack and Summers and a potential marriage denial. Lowell authorities investigate with Gerry Society aid.
In correspondence from New York dated March 18 1899 E Fellows Jenkins superintendent reports on a Holden Mack Summers case involving a woman named Holden and a younger girl accused of larceny. The woman was convicted for keeping a disorderly house and awaits sentence while the girl remains in custody. The letter traces Holden’s marriage to William Holden and their movements to Lowell and Boston, including an arrest for breaking and entering and Holden’s subsequent insanity and escape from Worcester asylum.
The women's branch reports a prosperous winter with about two hundred names enrolled in classes. Katherine Leonard's service began at 8:30 AM and continued at St. Patrick's at 9:00 AM with burial in Catholic cemetery. Mary Fitzgerald was buried after 2:30 PM funeral from O'Donnell's. Mrs. Harriet H. Wilson's services occurred at 2:30 PM at 67 Westford Street with Apollo quartet, burial in Edson cemetery.

Mary Kershaw alias Mary Ann Taylor alias Milly Leach alias May Fenton, long linked to shoplifting, was arrested Monday night by Inspectors Douglass Knox and Appleton Mu in the R H White Co store for larceny of an umbrella. Police found a vast stash in two rooms, including dresses, furs, jewelry, and 41 silk umbrellas, valued between 1500 and 2000 dollars. The case adds to a nine year pattern of arrests, with a prior escape from the Tombs in Boston and multiple previous Lowell detentions.

Mary Kershaw, previously sentenced to four years at Sherborn for women, reappeared in Lowell after an initial four year confinement failed to deter her. She resumed shoplifting, was arrested in October 1892 with two trunks of stolen goods, faced five counts, was held for the grand jury, and in February 1898 received five more years to the House of Correction, having been out just over a year.
The Moody school incident involved a boy found in possession of a revolver. Police were alerted and this morning Superintendent Davis directed Lieut. Webster to dispatch an officer to the school to confiscate the weapon.
John O'Connor injured Monday while removing a charge of dynamite in Pawtucketville. He is convalescing at the corporation hospital and will lose sight in one eye due to the blast.
Mrs. W S Davis ends contralto services at Chelmsford Street Baptist church on March 26.
