New York March 18 The Allen liner Carthagenian brought the Rialto crew rescued after their ship caught fire and was abandoned March 5. The crew recount a grueling forty hour fight to save lives and equipment aboard the burning vessel.
Cincinnati March 18. The Enquirer reports that tomorrow it will publish a full signed confession from Jackson and Walling, the Pearl Bryan murder suspects, along with an account of the disposal of the head.
Fall River on March 8 reports Frank Herlihy a stone cutter, cut his throat and died this morning at the foot of the bed he shared with his brother. De pression caused by drink given as cause.
An agent for a Virginia rubber company visits Bristol to recruit workers for a rival factory operating against the United States Rubber company.
Washington reports the resignation of Postmaster Hesing is expected to be accepted today and Charles A. Gordon is likely to be named his successor. Six persons drowned yesterday as a boat capsized during floodwaters driving them from their homes in Memphis.
Bath Maine March 18 12 10 PM the schooner Frank A Palmer a giant of its class was launched at noon creating a new world record for size and showcasing Bath shipbuilding prowess with observers noting its sleek hull and towering masts as the crew celebrated the milestone

The Chelmsford Odd Fellows fair enjoyed a second successful evening with heavy attendance. Prof Emerson entertained 75 children with Royal Marionettes while Persian Glass Blowers showcased glasswork. Lowell performers Warren S. Cornock Edith R Mitchell and musicians Burrington Erwin and Parkhurst entertained. Lizzie Mitchell recited Longfellow and a new march by Thomas Parkhurst was debuted. The event closes tonight with prize awards and more performances.
A Central street morning auction of unclaimed parcels by J. E. Conant & Co. drew a couple of hundred buyers. The unopened bundles sold with surprises as valises, trunks, and relics fetched varied prices. Women patrons competed vigorously while some bids against themselves occurred. Items ranged from axe handles to medicinal patent goods and a sewing machine.
The Phillips Andover Guitar and Mandolin clubs and Glee clubs perform at Highland Club hall on Friday to aid the Ayer Home. A lively programme features excellent selections and a dancing segment from 10 to 12. Tickets are selling well as many young people attend. The Phillips Andover team will return to Andover by special electric cars at midnight.

The Moynahan suit seeks damages for alleged false arrest and encroachment when Boston and Maine laid tracks on his land. Plaintiff says removal force was used and argues no right to enter. Defendants claim city and legislative permission justified entry. trial ongoing with counsel Courtney Morrison for plaintiff and the Richardsons for defense.
The Police court had a small session with John Fox sentenced to eight months for larceny and held on $200 appeal bond. John Connors fined $3 for drunkenness and two first offenders released. Louis Evicea, recently released from the state farm, threatened to kill his wife before departure and faces trial after promising not to harm her.
The Band of Hope gave a pleasing musical and literary entertainment in the Wigginville chapel Tuesday evening to a good-sized audience. Recitations by Masters Gee Dowrey Johnnie Green and Garfield Davis and David Allen, along with several young misses, were followed by instrumental pieces by Burrington and Edwin on bells banjo guitar mandolin autoharp cornet harmonica piccolo and ecccarena. Rev Bowley Green preaches in the chapel this evening. Next Tuesday the U P S C E will meet to elect officers for six months starting April 1. The choir rehearses in the chapel Friday evening.
Miss Adelaide I Noyes and pupils presented a pleasing program at Pawtucket Congregational church last evening. Readings were performed by Estelle Randall Iva Connell and Ethel Brown with songs by Nettie Studley and Maude McRae. A notable feature was a scarf and dumbbell drill by Estelle Randall aided by Mrs Hill.
Contracts for finishing St Patrick's Home were awarded last night. Connors Bros. received carpenter work for $6155, Walsh & Meers earned plastering for $2650, and Drury & Green were awarded plumbing for $2975.
Miss M A Baird of the Temple of Design is in New York buying spring and summer millinery stock. Greenwood Bros announce a price cut on Parisian flour to 4.50 a barrel. William Northledge of Masons marks its 30th anniversary with a supper and entertainment by the Oxford Musical club of Salem and ventriloquist Harry Bryant. The labor committee led by Senator Moran toured mills to inspect glass in mill windows and was hosted at the Highland club after arriving last night.

Johnson, Continental, S C Davis, C T Crosby, Broadway Central, Mr. and Mrs. P L Gregoire, St Denis, Miss M E Dudley, and Miss W S Swett.
James Costello of Lowell died yesterday afternoon at 42 Kirk street after a period of illness. Born in Boston on December 25 1831 he lived in Lowell most of his life and worked in hatter trade before retirement. He married Melinda Winsley in 1871 and leaves a brother Thomas and two sisters. funeral will be held Saturday at his residence. Claire Thomas aged 1 year 9 months died yesterday at 40 West Sixth street. Mrs Susan W Smith died at her daughter’s home in Tewksbury Centre aged 85.
Grace I Hutchins was laid to rest yesterday at 2 PM at her home 822 Salem Street with Rev E T Curnick officiating and four Sabbath school children providing singing. Burial followed in Edson cemetery.
In Lowell, on March 16, Charles D Robbins wed Alberta L Hersey in a ceremony performed by Rev. S. M. Dick. The couple resides in Lowell and follows the nuptial rite with local residents in attendance.
