Boston March 14 The United States grand jury returned fifteen counts against George M Foster and John W Dickinson for misappropriating 49900 dollars from the South Danvers National Bank in Peabody. Foster faces three more counts for false entries and willful misappropriation of 1000 dollars. Bail set at 25009. Dickinson posted, Foster remained jailed.
A panic at 270 Atlantic Avenue Brooklyn injures six and kills three including a woman and a 12 year old who leapt from fourth floor windows. The mother of the boy dies in the apartments. The building suffered about 5000 dollars in damage.
The national capitol mourns ex president Harrison with flags at half mast and the White House closed. The President leaves tonight for the funeral and issued a proclamation calling thirty days of mourning for the nation.
In Andover on March 14 William Gordon aged 23 attempted suicide at Smith and Dove mills. A broken pipe lay near him and rope was found around his neck. the pipe broke and may have prevented death. He was unconscious but is expected to recover.
The Massachusetts Total Abstinence society met at 36 Bromfield Street Boston with C EB Dennett presiding. Secretary Noon reported 1820 letters 15000 Temperance Cause copies 2000 School Guard 32000 Arrow Leaf 247786 pages circulated 279 contributors. Eleven towns with 34 licenses shifted to no-license and nine with 22 licenses moved to license. net gain for no-license 1979. Rev C Henry Mead’s month long campaign aided results. in 13 towns no-license gain reached 1141 votes. An anti-cigarette committee was formed including Noon Noyes Hill and Todd.
About 2 o'clock this morning a large double tenement on Ledge road Graniteville owned by L. P. Palmer and occupied by Frank Mic Manimon and family was burned down with total loss. An elderly woman in the family was ill, and a young girl who went downstairs for something for her discovered the flames. The incident is attributed to the fire.
The family escaped safely as the residence burned with difficulty removing a sick woman. Neighbors sheltered them, while the townspeople attempted but could not save the house. The powder house nearby was saved, averting a feared explosion.
A mail car on train No 5 left the track near Amoskeag station New Hampshire at 7:40 am due to a loose wheel. No injuries or stock damage occurred. Crews redirected passengers to train No 25 at Manchester 10:14 am while wrecking and re-rail operations repaired the derailed car south of Amoskeag.
James McCartell, 11, visited the Spaulding residence on Central street this morning and stole a pocketbook containing $26 from Miss Mabel Spaulding. He admitted the larceny after being confronted, led officers to the old Winterstreet barn where he hid the money, and was released on promise to appear in police court tomorrow. McCartell lives at 22 Davis street.
A hearing on highway improvement plans for Tewksbury beyond the An Dover road fork continued this morning. Trust petition supporters examined witnesses and rested their case. George N. Taylor's petition was taken up again with E. W. Bowditch, Boston landscape engineer, detailing plan practicability. The session continued into the afternoon.
Mrs A M Paxson spoke on Birds Their Plumage Habits and Haunts to the Middlesex Women's Club science department yesterday afternoon. The normal school bird collection was loaned for the event, enhancing interest as many club members children attended to learn about feathered friends.
Mary Lannon was arrested this morning by police inspectors in an Adams Street house. She is charged with larceny of $23 and a watch from an old man unnamed for now. The man reportedly lost his money after a chance meeting with the woman last night. the prisoner is known to police.
The Middlesex North Agricultural Society hosts its third institute on Thursday the 21st in Pawtucketville Congregational vestry starting at 10 a.m. Harvey A. Greene, florist, opens with The Value of Attractive Surroundings. A question box fuels the afternoon session. Dinner at noon by local ladies. Take Pawtucketville or Varnum avenue cars.

Daniel Carter a section hand for the Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill Street Railway was fatally injured when his right foot was crushed by an electric car while alighting near Sawyers corner on the Lowell road. He was treated at hospital where doctors amputated the foot except the heel. Carter, a Methuen resident and recent constable, had worked for the L L and H for three years after prior service with the Boston and Maine.
Police report the sudden death of Mrs Julia Ann Powers due to apoplexy attributed to heavy drinking. Medical Examiner Irish signed death return. timing about 7 30 am. Mrs Powers, from Methuen, died in a tenement on Gorham Street after collapsing at a sink. Husband believed to be Thomas. Undertaker Rogers took charge.
Mr and Mrs C H Miles hosted a dinner and reception at 56 Race Street in honor of Allison Miles 21st birthday. A Bible was presented, music featured organ by Miss Crandall and singing by C H Miles. Attendees included multiple relatives and friends. The event also marked Clarence E Miles birthday.
After a Wednesday evening choir rehearsal at the First Presbyterian church the choir association shared light refreshments of ice cream cake and coffee. Mrs Willman and Mr H Needham sang with Miss I Coburn at the piano. The event was planned by choir director Mr T H Wardwell.
In a civil service clerical exam 25 applicants were tested and 14 passed the highest score 88.67 achieved by Alice M. Hasey. Among the successful 14, eight were female applicants.
Locomotive No. 18 000 was recently turned out of the Baldwin locomotive works at Philadelphia showcasing the plant's ongoing production capabilities and advancing rail technology.
