Panic grips the population as hundreds die and recovery is rare. The disease is contained by the remote inland location away from railroads.
Boston March 11. Defense evidence questions Adah Richmond Stetson marriage in New Orleans in 1867 to John Schaffer. Bishop Newman’s deposition contested. Providence clergymen say no Hans on marriage records. Dr. Chapin testifies no Sullivan of Chicago or Hanson marriages found 1838-1874. No record of December 7 1871 marriage.
In Boston, indictments against Maverick Bank's president Asa P. Porter and directors Irving A. Evans Austin B Tobey and William S Bliss were placed on file by Judge Aldrich. In the North End a Thursday night street quarrel after a wrestling match left Pesquado Razzetti, 27, dying in hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest fired by Leonardo Gracia.
A sudden blaze at a lone house between the Navy Yard and Collinsville killed Hannah Stewart and left two companions to flee with injuries. The fire trapped Stewart in an upper loft after she lit a candle, burning the home and delaying aid as onlookers heard her screams. Critchett and Mrs Wilson escaped, while the house owner John H Burke and tenant James Critchett were later identified.
Emily Kathro aged about 52 was found dying on the sidewalk beside Kirk Street Church near French Street. She had visited the city library earlier and was returning home to 43 French Street when she suddenly collapsed. An ambulance and Undertaker Brooks received the body. a sister Mrs. Martha Hitchings of 432 Bunker Hill Street Charlestown was notified.
A man giving the name Charles Starr attended the final meeting of Haverhill lodge of Good Templars. He had the permanent password and signals but failed to provide the quarterly password. He said he belonged to Charter Oak lodge in Hartford and received $5 after asking for aid. Hartford lodge officials denied any such lodge or man exists and were alerted by the secretary.

The annual Forty Hours devotion opened at 9 o clock this morning at St Patrick's church. Decorated with tropical greenery and electric lamps the service featured Rev R S Burke as celebrant with Rev D J Gleason deacon and Rev M J Leonard sub deacon. Notre Dame academy and St Patrick's school students joined the processional. The Pange Lingua was sung by choir, Tantum Ergo by all, and the litany of the saints recited. Mass will be offered again tomorrow at 8 am and 10 30 am with a closing procession Sunday.

Pelham N H Wednesday night festival hosted by the Pelham grange in the town hall attracted about 200 attendees. The guess cake went to J W Currier and a chair to Fred W Peabody.
The Murray association of the First Universalist church held a combined business meeting and social at Rev. C. F. Fisher's residence on Middlesex Street. Vestry entertainment plans were proposed while performances by Miss Jennie Lind Lewis, Mr. Percy Wodds, Miss Jessie Lewis and E. S. Varney added interest to the function.
The funeral of Augustus C Myer, child of Patrick and Clara Myer, was held this afternoon from the parents’ home at 461 Moody Street and interred in Edson cemetery under Undertaker Davey. Johanna Pinder, daughter of Patrick and Julia Pinder, also funeralized this afternoon from 282 Adams Street and buried in Catholic cemetery.
Rose McNulty died last night at her home 180 Market street at age 47. She is survived by her husband Thomas, a son, and her sister Bridget McGowan.

Mason and the song Mona by Harriet Woodworth preceded the main attraction A Proposal Under Difficulties presented by C Fred Hard Percival G. Barnard Lilian Hard and Sadie L. Pierce drawing broad approval from a large crowd.
The Superior court opened with the sealed jury verdict in Annie Brown pro ami v Charles A Hodgman. Jury awarded $171.50 to the plaintiff. Defendant's counsel W H Atwood of Ayer moved for a ruling on insufficiency of evidence and possible retrial in another court. Next case Annie North v John J Hanlon concerns paternity of a child born in September. Jeremiah Crowley represents the complainant, John J Hogan the defendant.
March 12 report details Hugh McElthill fined $1 for drinking, Margaret Manning $3 for prior offences, Arthur Devlin and Mary Tighe sent to the workhouse for four months, and Thomas Dixon jailed five months. Latour horse and wagon stolen from St. Jean Baptiste church were recovered yesterday in a yard at Tewksbury.
