The jury in Charlottetown P E I March 10 acquitted Archibald McGowan farmer charged with murdering Margaret McKenzie on the grounds of insanity.
In Boston on March 9 a trial began in Supreme Court to determine if Mrs Adah Richmond Stetson is the lawful widow of John Stetson whose will left his estate to his wife Mrs Stokes Stetson. Witnesses testified to Stetson's affection and abuse, and several said he treated Adah Richmond as his wife with repeated money support and an introduction at 5 Alden Street.

Last evening the City Council split over Mayor backed removals and appointments. Officials changed include Streets Chief Callahan replaced by George L. Fowler and Fire Chief Kerwin replaced by Edward S. Hosmer. City Solicitor Donahue replaced by Francis W. Quay. Treasurer Coburn retained to avoid lapse. An order to remove Callahan passed along party lines, other moves faced appeals and defeats. Fowler and Hosmer won the new posts amid procedural volleys.
The mayor convened the board at 8 30 with a wires relocation resolution. Cosgrove sought a free city telephone condition, amendment seconded by Lawrence. The items were sent back to committee. The board then elected Francis W Qua as city solicitor by seven votes and adjourned. Total annual city telephone costs totaled 4766 dollars.

The Phalanx members correct a claim about their departure for Washington being Lowell’s first presidential inauguration appearance. They note the same Lowell company marched in 1881 for President Garfield’s inauguration and participated in that parade.
Joel Shedd longtime Nashua resident and former janitor at Main Street M E church in Nashua died Thursday March 4 at his Milford home from valvular heart disease. He was 63, leaves a widow and three daughters in Lowell, and funeral services were held March 6 at the Main Street M E church Nashua.
The Belvidere YMCA and Centralville YMCA teams faced off last night at Centralville rooms. Three teams from each side played three games and Centralville won 17 to 10. Stephen Dwyer led the pool match, defeating Belvidere 100 to 45. Whist teams contest planned tonight with expected close play.
