The government steamer Aberdeen brought the Moravia crew to Halifax from Sable Island after the wreck northeast of Bar Island last month. Only Second Officer Brenton perished from the forty crew. he died during rescue. Captain Johnson said coal was short and wreck occurred during a rough voyage with no observations possible.
Washington dispatch reports Maj Gen Otis saying insurgents have not captured any prisoners of war and that only three soldiers held by insurgents near Cavite and Caloocan are under their control. He claims over 500 insurgents captured since February 4 and notes the troops are in splendid condition, while noting magnified reports from Hong Kong.
The hospital ship Relief began its voyage to Manila via Suez today and is scheduled to arrive on April 20. It carries medicines and supplies for an army of 25,000 for a year, including sixteen water filters and equipment for five hundred beds.
Washington March 3 The President sent to the Senate the nomination of George Dewey to be admiral of the navy under the act of March 2 and Otis to be major general by brevet to rank from February 4 for military skill and distinguished services in the Philippines.
Gibraltar March 3 The transport Sheridan with the Twelfth regiment infantry and a battalion of the Seventeenth has arrived. Owing to sickness the transport is quarantined. There are 28 sick, 8 seriously, and one death.
New York report states Kipling is very much improved and his daughters are progressing favorably as the family recovers from recent illness.
Rome reports the Pope is better as the wound heals and life is greatly prolonged. In New York the cruiser Marblehead sailed for Havana to join Sampson's squadron.

Fred Bates now serves as agent chief inspector superintendent at the yard and foreman at the stable. John F Curtin, once stable foreman, leaves the payroll after Supt Murphy’s removal. John Higgins, a deserter in the artillery service, was arrested by Officer Hogan on Williams Street at 8 this morning. He is a Lowell man wanted at Fort Warren.
Samuel Anderson of 68 Chambers Street fell down stairs at his residence last night sustaining a scalp wound. An ambulance conveyed him to St. John's Hospital for treatment.

Henry H. Barnes aged 88 years 4 months died at his Lowell home after a life spanning 1815 to 1903. Born in Hillsborough New Hampshire he moved to Lowell in 1829 and worked with Daniel H. Dean for decades becoming a respected deacon of High Street Church. He married Clarissa Wilson in 1837 and is survived by a son Henry W. Barnes.
Funeral services were held for Bridget Cogan at 2 PM yesterday at her Adams Street home with Fr. Leonard officiating and burial in St. Patrick's cemetery. Also noted were services for Mrs. Meribach B. Nevins at 56 New Fletcher Street with No. 2 Cemetery burial, and Mr. Henry H. Bennett at 15 Alder Street with burial in Lowell Cemetery under J. B.
