In the case Mrs Annie Dellers vs Modern Woodmen the society refused a $2000 benefit after her husband was expelled. The court ruled in her favor. Kansas City Mo June 23 A swindler named J R Bell arrested after three years eluding treasury officials. He boasted of forged notes and involvement with others to cheat victims out of currency gains.
In Boston at Tremont Temple the 8th international and 13th national Sunday school convention began with a praise service led by Rev. D. L. Moody. About 6000 delegates attended. a business meeting followed with Wm. Randolph of Missouri named chairman. Rev. George C. Lorimer welcomed attendees, and Rev. Samuel H. Blake of Toronto responded.
June 23 West Medford reports the death of R. H. White an elderly schoolmaster. Former principal of Brooks grammar school he taught at Nichols school Boston for two years. A self inflicted gunshot wound ended his life this morning.
Providence R I June 23 The Brown University ball team will set out on Thursday for Chicago to play three games with the University of Chicago team. Traveling expenses both ways are guaranteed and the visitors will receive one half the gate receipts.
Denver voters approved the Highland annexation, expanding Greater Denver by four square miles and boosting population by about 10 000. The move increases city area after Highland taxpayers favored the measure at the polls.
The Western Choral association is organized as a permanent body with A. S. Hibbard of Chicago as president. The group attracts members from several western states and aims to unify regional choral activities.
London June 23 Sir Joseph Parest witch professor of geology at Oxford and a prominent member of the royal society is dead.
Noble Shepard, awaiting execution for the murders of Thomas Norton and Lizzie Leahy, escaped his jail cell between midnight and 4 am. He crawled 20 feet through a sewer, reached the gallows roof, climbed the brick wall, and fled into the street with outside aid suspected as investigators probe the escape.
Rev. William Shebourne Locke a renowned retired Methodist clergyman in South Manchester died yesterday at age 80. Born in Stanford Quebec he traced direct lineage to Capt. John Locke of Rye famed for the Straws Point ambush.
New York June 22 stockholders of the American Telephone and Telegraph company voted to increase the capital stock to 2,000,000 dollars, consisting of 200,000 shares with a par value of 100 dollars each.
James Duffy of Collinsville hauling coal for Frank R. Hill on Mammoth road fell from a long farmer’s wagon laden with 6500 pounds of coal. He was run over and suffered a fractured leg and crushed toes. Injuries were treated at St. John's hospital.

Frederick Hart pleaded guilty to cruelty to a rat after pouring kerosene and roasting it alive, paying a $25 fine. Several others were fined for drunkenness and minor offenses, including Duddy who received an added $20 for profane language. The high school class of 96 met in the school hall at noon to hear Miss Mabel Brooks read the class prophecy, praised as a clever production. The Billerica and Lowell Royal Arcanum councils plan a joint observance to mark the order's 19th anniversary in Huntington Hall tomorrow evening. Hon. John Has kell Butler of Boston and Grand Oracle A. G. Walsh of Lowell will speak. Entertainers include the Ariel Ladies' Quartet of Boston, Charles T. Grilley humorist, and Van Venchten Rogers harp soloist.
