St Joseph’s parochial boys and Merrimack street girls closed for day while St Patrick’s girls held forenoon commencement. Program featured polka recital, recitations, choirs, and a diploma list including Gertrude Connell, Mary Wallace, Margaret Redding, and Jane Shanahan with “A Brilliant Star” as the valedictory and “Magnificat” chorus.
James Morgan aged 40, claiming Lynn residence, was arrested after a two hour pursuit in Lynn on Thursday afternoon. A companion escaped. Morgan, posing as a water inspector, detained Mrs. Kats Sullivan in a confectionery on Summer Street and officers later captured him after a robbery was observed.
Herbert H. Pressey a freight conductor was run over at Wilmington Junction this morning about 930. He stepped on the track in front of a passing engine and lost his left arm and a large amount of blood. He was taken to the Northern depot then to St Johns hospital in a very critical condition. He is about 30, married, and lives at 50 Lincoln street.
Middlesex mills will close due to lack of orders with all employees laid off by July 1. Weaving, spinning, carding and dyeing are already shut. only wet and dry finishing remain active to complete current work. The duration of the shutdown is uncertain but the company hopes woolen industry conditions improve.
The Post 42 Relief Corps seeks a land plot for soldier burials, replacing pauper lots, with cemetery trustees signing a fence contract for the new cemetery section. The city solicitor consulted, no action taken at meeting. Also notes a 40-instrument composition by Joseph P. Dwyer to be played at the Boston pop concert, titled The Twentieth Century March.

On June 20 at St Peter's parochial residence Mrs Samuel Rogers married Miss Margaret Moran in a ceremony officiated by Rev Fr Ronan. Best man was Mr M T O'Brien and bridesmaid Miss Bella Scott.
The W C T U held a lawn party yesterday at Mrs Nellie Parker's Chelmsford Centre home. Guests enjoyed a generous lunch in the dining room then outdoor social time on the lawn. The event featured gratitude to Mrs Parker for her hospitality and a cheerful trolley ride home with a lively conductor.
A class of 130 children, including 62 boys and 68 girls, received first communion this morning at St Michael's Church in Centralville.
In the police court this morning several drunkenness cases were disposed of with fines ranging from two to fifteen dollars. Martin J. McAndrews was charged with assault on an officer after an incident with Officer Lamoreux near Morrill school and North common. The judge found the officer acted to preserve peace, but McAndrews was fined two hundred dollars and the drunkenness charge placed on file.
The smallpox patients were reported doing well this morning. Three of the Brais family including the father and two children were released from the hospital, and the remaining cases are well in hand.
Sixty five young people took the public examination for admission to the high school this forenoon. Applicants hailed from Tyngsboro Dracut Dunstable and neighboring towns including private city schools and public school pupils who wished to enter. It is the annual exam open to all who wish to enter the high school.

Vaselo Kalepoure died at 50 Fenwick street with services officiated by Rev P Fambales Rev J Vierzes and Rev N Sideres and burial at Edson cemetery by Undertaker Molloy. Mary E wife of Geo W Foster was laid to rest at her Wamesit home with Rev Allison Currier of Vernon Street Baptist Church Lewell officiating and burial at Tewksbury Centre cemetery. Bearers included A C Blaisdell Elliot French William Ayer and Lorenzo Ayer.
