Republican National Committee Begins Hearings in Philadelphia
The Republican national committee opened hearings at the Hotel Walton, focusing on contest cases ahead of the temporary roll for the national convention. Alabama contests dominated the first session, with disputes over state and district delegations and claims of federal office holders influencing outcomes. Debates included a resolution to bar contested Alabama delegates except in the ninth district, and a call for federal patronage investigations. The Delaware case followed, with Addicks and Dupont factions arguing over party recognition, and the committee adjourned to discuss a referral to a committee.
