In the Citizen this morning Frank FE Flint Co advertised sailor hats at 1 cent. The correct price was 19 cents, a high quality hat. The 1 cent figure was a compositor error and should be treated as the stated price.
The social committee of the Y P C of the First Baptist church held an entertain ment and social in the vestry Thursday night. Bert Williams performed a sleight of hand act and the xylophone, Misses Alice and Trances Bagley sang, Miss Gertrude Fuller accompanied, and light refreshments were served.
Joseph Bamford, hose 11 driver, was injured when the wagon tipped over on the way to a fire yesterday. He is resting comfortably and, as far as known, no bones are broken.
A late Friday incident near Glen Forest saw the last car jump the track due to a wire defect. Another car was dispatched and passengers reached Loll 55 minutes late. Mr. William Young of 72 Stanley Street sustained a slight injury.
The Manila ball showcased by the American Philippine commissioners featured Otis and other officers, wealthy natives, and attractive guests in native jewelry. The event ended with the Star Spangled Banner as Senator Beveridge concluded a two week tour of Iloilo, Negros, and Cebu, where he spoke with Chief Jolo who claims two thousand loyal followers. Brig. Gen. Charles King, arriving from Manila, reports a serious situation in the Philippines. Guerrilla warfare continues and may require a large force to subdue it. He praises the volunteers and says the war is far from over.
The Echo de Paris reports General Burlinden, Paris military governor, consented to the provisional release of Col. Plequart who is imprisoned for revealing national defence documents. The Petit Republic notes Col. Paty De Clam, arrested and sent to Cherche Midi prison last night, has attempted death by own action.
Troops A and F of the Fourth Cavalry recently stationed at Yellowstone Park have been sent to Manila. Two companies of the Fourteenth Infantry with 1200 recruits have sailed on the City of Pueblo from San Francisco on June 2.
A grand parade featured ponies, lions, tigers, leopards, elephants, chariots, and many national costumes. Spectators praised the display as worth braving the heat. Ticket buyers gathered early while police ensured orderly conduct and protected patrons from imposition.
Three drunks arraigned before Judge Fisher. James D. Brogan fined $5, Henry Sullivan sent to State farm after recent Lawrence arrest. Charles E Cahill found intoxicated with four bottles. Eight year old Laura Beausoleil daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Beausoleil of 82 Campan street Centralville was struck by an inbound electric train on Lakeview avenue around 11:30 am. Her right leg was nearly severed and she was taken to St John s Hospital where doctors said amputation would be necessary. She had been excused from school to watch the circus parade and ran in front of the electric while hurrying home.
The public exhibition at the textile school showcases graduating pupils work across departments. Graduation exercises and diplomas are presented this evening and the exhibition remains open to the public until 6 o clock p m Saturday.
Obituary notes the death of Rev Patrick Murphy C C of St Johns Cathedral Limerick after two months illness in St Johns Fever Hospital. He served as hospital chaplain and on its board of governors praised for kindness and devotion to the sick poor. His career spanned Mungret College Royal University Maynooth Sunderland South Shields St Michaels Parochial Church Banique Knockaderry and St Johns Cathedral. Obsequies set for Wednesday at 11 oclock with Office and Requiem Mass. General notices follow including engagements illnesses and acknowledgments from local residents and institutions.
Florence Elizabeth Cogger aged 10 months died at 82 Parkview Avenue. Hannah A. Kohlrausch of North Billerica died after two days illness from heart failure. she was 34 and active in social and benevolent work and a Talbot Dye & Chemical clerk. William H. Kimball, 64, a stair builder and G A R member, died at his home 475 Stevens Street. he leaves three daughters and four sons.
Funeral services for William McArthur were held at St. Anne's church with burial in Lowell cemetery. Relatives from Halifax and Atlanta attended. Also noted were funerals for Mrs. Sarah A. Lougee of Gorham street and John Harrall of Lincoln street with burials at Lowell and Edson cemeteries respectively.
Mr William M Tuplin and Miss Katie I O Connell wed in the Immaculate Conception chapel at 10 80 am. Miss Mary Hennessy served as bridesmaid and Richard Arthur O Connell was best man. A reception followed at 109 Perry Street, hosted by the bride's parents Mr and Mrs John O Connell.
