Lincoln Neb June 1 Governor Poyner reports a Washington message stating Boer envoys will visit Lincoln to confer with Bryan on his national policy toward the Burghers if he is elected.
Tropical sun and a blazing morning did not dampen the reception as Forepaugh and Sells circus arrived at 7 am and the parade began at 11 20 am. The march featured a red band, mounted knights, elegant band wagons, ten-horse red pom pom team, sixteen elephants including four babies, Arab-riding camels, two women driving four-horse chariots, and open animal cages. Children glimpsed ferocious animals while hippo pair rested in a closed tank. The procession lasted about 15 minutes and offered a strong preview of the spectacle to come.

The oldest Brass girl at the contagious hospital broke out with varioloid this morning, making the fifth case there. The other patients are all doing well. There are now 21 people living at the hospital. It is not a single-room building but contains a dozen rooms. Food for the inmates is supplied from the city farm and living is excellent.

In police court this morning George Calivas faced Judge Hadley on a charge of assaulting Dionysus N. Petrakis. An interpreter translated Petrakis’s testimony about threats and a cheese knife in a Market Street incident. Calivas was found guilty, fined $3, and bound to keep the peace for six months.

Mr. Fay H. Martin, retiring overseer at Lowell Machine Shop, was surprised with a gold watch and chain during a Thursday stock-room gathering of about 50 colleagues. After 20 years with the shop, he leaves as general foreman to assume a post as general superintendent with American Lock Company. C W Dana presented the gift and voiced warm thanks for his courtesy and leadership.
John Carley of Lawrence was nabbed on upper Chelmsford Street as a suspicious character and later taken to Lawrence. John Murphy was held without bail by police for being responsible for Carley’s disappearance. Murphy and Carley were fined $10 each in Lawrence court for assault.
Obituary notes the death of David Edouard Parthenais, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. David A. Parthenais, who died yesterday at their home. The child had been seemingly healthy until just hours before his passing.
Infant Helen Hilton Fisher dies in Roxbury at eight months old to John and Jessie Fisher. Funeral set at Lowell cemetery on Saturday at 2 30 pm.
Miss Bernice Castello a charming reader impersonator and vocalist entertained the Elks and friends in the lodge hall last night. Her varied programme was very well received. Mr Edward R Burke, formerly of this city, is in town a few weeks with his mother and will return to Buffalo in August. F C Church has returned from Arizona.
Mr and Mrs John F Kelley of 11 Burnside street are esteemed Eirene Idage members. On Thursday night a birthday surprise party filled the hospital home with Eireneites. A gold watch gifted by her husband and a chain from the lodge were presented as the special event.
