Montreal July 30 fire at Howden Starke Co wholesale hardware store caused a large blaze. The exposition building and nearby structures were damaged with losses estimated at 150000 dollars for the exposition and 50000 dollars for the hardware firm. The Gloucester schooner Bluejay reportedly moved along the Montreal Park and Island railway as flames spread.
Denver July 30 authorities believe Edward Burbank 27 son of a Cripple Creek merchant was arrested in Denver for a stage robbery near Cripple Creek July 23. A portion of the stolen loot was unearthed at a spot he designated after arrest.
In Boston on July 29 Stivetts played left field and muffed two chances and fumbled, helping Baltimore win 7 to 6. Tenny muffed in right field. Both clubs had rough starts as Baltimore posted heavy early offense before settling, while Boston collected 10 hits and made 5 errors.

In Springfield NL on July 30 two masked robbers shot and killed Agent Campbell around 10 PM at Walker, a location a few miles from town. The incident marks a violent dawn for the community as authorities investigate.

The West Fifth Street Baptist church organized an excursion to Salem Willows yesterday with many Pastor's Aid society members and youths joining the outing. Miss Helen R. Boardman departed for a month long stay in Whitehall Vermont.

State Highway Commission holds a hearing at the State House this afternoon with Lawrence Haverhill and Newburyport representatives to consider a petition for a state highway from Lawrence to the sea. Lowell is not listed among speakers, though local interest favors a Lowell route.

James J. Mountain, a floor walker at A. G. Pollard's, is near death from a fractured skull after an electric shock from a nearby wire. He fell from a step ladder as coworkers rushed to aid him at the corporation hospital.

Despatch from New York reports on the Harlem Court hearing of Mrs. Arthur Redlich aka Mrs. George Curtis Wright wife of George Curtis Wright father of Countess Zichy. The desertion and maintenance case featured testimony about declarations and a common law marriage claim. The proceedings paused with adjournment requested by Wright's lawyer and the defendant asserting lack of support.
In the July 30 Police court dull session Mary Howe won a continuance for her assault charge against landlady Mrs Grady. Several first time drunks were fined one dollar. Bulmer faced 11 dollars or jail. Donohoe and McLoughlin appealed from sentences. Holland received five months. McNamara pleaded guilty to wife assault and got probation. Head to be tried tomorrow. Burrows fined two dollars for assault on his sister.
A Kirk Street Church vestry meeting, led by J. W. C. Pickering with H. Thompson as pro tem clerk, debated improvements including pews frescoing and carpets. Some favored fundraising first, others preferred securing funds. The prudential, fundraising, and memorial windows committees were empowered. A new organ is being built and may arrive in five weeks.
Granite lodge I O G T of Graniteville held a busy session electing officers for the ensuing quarter. Chief templar Lottie Yorke and vice templar Clara Kierstead led a list that included chaplain Zina L. Mitchell secretary William G. Stevens and other posts. An entertainment was planned for Saturday August 8 with remarks by James L. Moss Mt. Zion lodge and songs and readings by members.
At the police station roll call last night Officer Willis L. Gardner was fined 380 days pay for neglect of duty under rule 19. It was expected a promotion to sergeant would follow Sergeant Brosnan’s advancement, but no new appointment has been made yet.

The ship is described as well appointed and captains as courteous, inviting travelers to experience Nova Scotia by sea.

Inspectors Laflamme and Allen arrested Bernard Coughlin on Middlesex Street for larceny of a suit of clothes taken last March from his brother in law Frank Garland. Coughlin, recently working in Concord Mass, facing local charges.
