Havana reports reflect growing anti annexation feeling among Cubans who seek self rule. Some annexationists blame US pretexts for intervention and dream of spoils after war. Circulo De Hacendados, Cuban planters group, plans July 30 elections to form a new annexationist leadership and organize a formal group.
The remains of Cardinal Ledochowski were laid in state this morning in the Chapelle Ardente at the Vatican palace where the sacred college and the late pope’s followers paid him last offices. The public can view the body as crowds gather in Piazza di Spagna and telegrams of condolence pour in from many quarters. Poland mourns deeply for its native son who championed Polish independence despite hostility from Russia and Germany.

Yesterday afternoon in front of his home at 444 Central street three year old Thomas Molloy was bitten on the lip by a dog. He received treatment at the Emergency hospital and is expected to recover without serious effects.
Edward F Moran, a young man with a heavy prior record, faced police court over a $25 gold watch stolen from Lottie Stevens on January 14 in a Middlesex street room. Moran allegedly sold the watch to James Arthur for $2.50, then lied about ownership to Arthur. Judge Hadley placed Moran on probation with a one year jail sentence hanging over him.
A World despatch from Astoria reports repeated incendiary attempts to destroy Fort Stevens near Portland. Incendiaries set oil on the torpedo storehouse floor and a barracks fire, both thwarted by the fireproof construction. A note signed The Twelve Dynamiters claimed intent to blow up the fort and kill many.
In Pascoag R L on July 23 two deputy sheriffs reinforced two on duty to guard Anchor mills property and escort new arrivals seeking work. About 20 of 175 weavers are at work while other mill departments run partially. Strikers say an injunction restrains them from further actions.
