Lowell resident August Fels Dies After Carriage Crash
August Fels, a well known Lowell resident, fell from his carriage on West Sixth Street Saturday at 10 PM, sustained a base skull fracture and brain hemorrhage, and died at 1:40 AM. Mrs Fels rode with Frank Hill. Drs Gardner Field and Gage treated him, with Gage arriving from Rockport after travels. He leaves a wife, three sons Max Gus Grover and two daughters Cecilia and Anna. born February 7, 1844 in Dombirn Switzerland, he immigrated to America and led woolen mill work in Paterson and Lowell before joining Merrimack Woolen Mills.

William Martin aged five was poisoned by illuminating gas at his cousin Frederick Martin’s Ludlam street home.
