Minerva Ohio July 2 a tunnel on the Lake Erie Alliance and Wheeling railroad caved in its entire length during early work on uncovering the hill. A hundred men were to enter when the hill settled. doctors were dispatched and traffic halted as rescuers assessed casualties and injuries.
London July 2 King Edward made another excellent night progress toward recovery with less troublesome wound healing. Queen Alexandra center of attention at Buckingham Palace as East Indian troops parade at Horse Guards with Lord Curzon leading and the Prince of Wales saluting from the royal carriage amid cheers for the King.
Secretary Treasurer W B Wilson of the United Mine Workers has returned from Chicago and heads to West Virginia to confer with district officers amid an injunction preventing meetings with miners in the strike region. He says he has not been served with papers and is unaware of the court action beyond newspaper reports, risking arrest if he proceeds.
In Hazleton Pennsylvania on July 2 four pickets including John Shovelin William Gillgate Frank Schrader and a Hungarian were arrested by Coxe Bros guards for blocking access to the Drifton colliery. A guard drew a revolver and Shovelin produced a weapon during the clash as deputies intervened.
London July 2. In the House of Commons today the parliamentary secretary of the foreign office Lord Cranborne said Great Britain will not be aroused by the collection of the Irkin and other dues by the Russian administration at New Chiang Manchuria. Parliament discussed Chinese and Manchurian affairs and potential implications for British policy.

Washington July 2 G A R department of the Potomac endorses John M Elroy managing editor National Tribune as candidate for commander in chief. He served from 1862 to war end in Co L 16th Illinois Cavalry and was a prisoner at Andersonville. He has editorial control of national papers for 28 years and 36 years in the organization.
Chicago July 2 A demand for a wage increase of 35 or 40 percent will be presented to the Chicago Traction company by its employer aligned with the Amalgamated association. The action follows a prior understanding that no such demand would be made within a year and stems from a similar demand at the Chicago City Railway company.
New York July 2 A conspiracy against Uruguay President Cuestas was uncovered through a street death in Buenos Ayres. Carlos Paggini, identified as the head conspirator, was found dead. police recovered 24 kilos of dynamite in his home. It is believed he backed out of the plot and was killed by a fellow conspirator to prevent disclosure.
Miss Mary Lewis aged 15 daughter of Deacon George Lewis was stripped of clothing by a New York express train near Milford Connecticut. She clung to a fence between tracks and escaped with minor scratches and shock after the engineer stopped the train. Police and physicians reported only superficial injuries and no fatal harm.
Washington July 2 Secretary Root told Gov Taft that if the United States buys the friar lands in the Philippines no monks friars or priests may return to parishes. They must vacate the lands and cease influence in municipal affairs to ease installing a civil government there.
Early this morning at 8 35 a.m. a small blaze broke out in a house on Salem street triggering box 9 alarm. A paper on the wall ignited but the fire was immediately extinguished with no injuries reported.
