Washington January 30 secretary Olney and Sir Julian Pounce Forte signed a convention to define by a commission the portion of the Alaska boundary along the 141st meridian. The treaty will be sent to the Senate on Monday.
St Louis January 30 Efforts to save the millionaire child murderer Duestrow from the gallows proceed as friends examine his sanity. Several x ray photographs of his head have been taken, but results are not yet known.
Chicago dispatch reports James J. Corbett plans to travel to Denver to prepare for his planned prize fight with Fitzsimmons. He believes the bout will take place in Nevada after the governor signed the bill permitting prize fights.
Topeka Kansas January 30 The state Senate passed a resolution directing Kansas's Congressional delegation to push for free coinage of silver at a sixteen to one ratio.
The pilot boat Liberty, missing since Thursday’s blizzard, has returned safely after being blown out to sea. A Boston report notes her survival and arrival today. A church event at Kirk Street Church will feature a string quartet and organ tomorrow evening.

John Rogers and Malachi Baldwin two Brooklynd elevated railroad switchmen at Van Siclen avenue station were arrested Friday on suspicion of causing a fatal collision the night before. They were charged with homicide as the investigation continues.

The Lowell Textile School opens this afternoon in the Parker block, Middle street, with state and city representation. Key facilities include a 70 by 48 foot lecture room, 22 power looms, wool and worsted rooms, a design and photography setup, and a plan to train students in all mill trades. The Lowell Silent Society hosted its third annual party in Highland hall last night with guests from several cities. A supper for 200 was served, a masquerade promenade and whist games entertained attendees, and many valuable prizes were awarded. George Zimmer acted as general manager, aided by Joseph O Neal Samuel Wardman John M Davis and Edwin E Estabrook.
