Mrs. Sarah McClure, an elderly resident, attempted to drown herself near Lakeview avenue and Bridge street at noon. Michael Fitzpatrick, from a nearby tenement, jumped in, swam through freezing water, and brought her to shore with help from Patrolman Patrick Bagley. The woman, said to suffer temporary insanity, was taken home after the rescue.

The battery broke the world record for long distance practice marches covering the 1100 miles from Fort Riley Kansas in 35 days. The men are haggard and lean with many barely able to travel.
