Boston February 27 A blaze at the Bowdoin Square hotel began on the fourth floor and spread upward forcing 140 guests including actors and stage staff to flee. One woman Mrs Frank Barry jumped to a lower roof and was hospitalized unconscious but expected to recover. Firefighters controlled the flames with three alarms, total loss estimated at 2000 dollars with heavy water damage and smoke affecting Bowdoin Square theatre next door.

Boers Make Determined Night Attack Near Bothasberg
London reports a Boer force of about 600 attacked a British outpost near Bothasberg in Transvaal on Feb 23. Led by Joss Hands and Marie Botha, they fired from dead cattle trenches after failing to breach wire fences. Fifteen Boers and 6 wounded died, 170 horses were killed or wounded, and 6000 cattle were lost. British lines under Lieut Col Julian Byng and Maj Michael Rimington held firm, with New Zealand troops elements bearing the brunt.
