Rev Joseph Adolphus Tortel O M L a long time Oblate priest of the Immaculate Conception parish died at St John s Hospital at 1 55 PM after a period of illness and the death of his close friend Fr Joyce. Born in 1826 in Valence France he joined the Oblates in 1846 and was ordained in 1849. He served in England Canada and the United States including Lowell where he helped build the Oblate community. He remained noted for learning prudent counsel and strict observance until his death in the company of fellow Oblates and Sisters of Charity.
