A collision between two freight trains at Jackson near Ogden Utah caused a massive dynamite blast killing 28 and injuring 15. Most victims were Greek laborers with several Americans among the dead. Wreckage and destruction extended over a wide radius, with telegraph wires down and a deep excavations where the cars stood. A relief train rushed to the scene and the injured were taken to the company hospital.

Fire destroys Racine insane asylum. 13 residents rescued
A Racine Wisconsin insane asylum burned last night. All 13 patients were rescued though some faced great danger in extreme cold. Loss estimated at 115000 with 35000 insured. Only laundry stables and pump house survived. Fire began in attic due to defective flue. Patients brought to city hall for care as fire raged for nearly an hour. The institution will be rebuilt and inmates relocated to other state asylums.

Blazing Electric Car Runs Wild in Pittsburg
A Pittsburg electric streetcar with 20 passengers aboard sped from Grant to Market on Larmer avenue with brakes off. Four passengers were seriously hurt, two motors exploded, and the car burned almost completely after a rear-end brake release triggered a panic. Dorothy Greenup leaped a gate, and E J Thompson dragged a woman from a window. Mrs Greenup and John Jones were hospitalized.
