In the Bronx, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Cornish were attacked after a theatre outing. The thief ripped a five thousand dollar diamond brooch from Mrs. Cornish, fired twice at Mr. Cornish, and escaped after a gun chase with a pursuing patrolman. A broad search is under way.
Boston February 18 The law firm McPherson Hyde and Damon reports a robbery of notes and bonds valued at 50000. The securities owners names are not disclosed but contents include 30000 in notes and 20000 in bonds. Bonds include Keene New Hampshire Electric Railway Company numbers 121 to 140 totaling 10000 along with bonds of American Writing Paper Company and Norcross contracting Worcester.
In Olneyville, five aboard a double runner crashed into a telegraph pole due to a broken steering gear. Elmer Gross and Mary Snow linger with severe injuries while Howard Sherwood, the steersman, is not seriously hurt. Nellie Hollien and Lena Parkinson suffered only a shake up. Snow may have a fractured skull and Gross a brain concussion. Both taken to Rhode Island hospital.
German battleship Woerth which ran ashore in fog off Kiel on February 16 has been refloated and appears to have sustained only slight damage.

Pottsville Pennsylvania February 18 Six men were killed and 14 injured at the Lyttle colliery when a gunboat lowering cage jumped the track and toppled supporting props causing rock to fall. Six men in the gunboat died. ten injured men walked from the slope. Superintendent Kennedy leads the rescue operation.
Northboro in Chapinville facing closure of the woolen mills if workers do not return on Monday. Management informed the weavers on strike that 200 operatives may be laid off, and a meeting has been called to decide the next steps.
New York Feb 18 The Red Star line steamer Finland bound for Antwerp ran aground at the junction of Main and South channels near Sandy Hook while passing through the ship channel. The vessel showed signals of loss of control as the tide stood at its lowest point during the incident.
A well dressed man about 40, who gave the name George Haskin, boarded the Norwich line steamer Chester W. Cha Pin at New London. He was found dead in his stateroom after the ship reached her dock in New York with a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Taunton February 18 A Taunton jury returned a not guilty verdict for William H Greeley on an indictment charging attempted bribery of a Taunton common council member. Justice White ordered Attorney Lizotte to court next Monday to show cause why he should not be held in contempt.
Halifax reports the Allan Line steamer Parisian, believed to have foundered 188 miles west of Liverpool on a voyage to Halifax, has arrived, confirming earlier distress news from the sea on February 18. The vessel was en route to Liverpool when loss was feared.

Joseph Garner a 22 year old weaver at Talbot mills North Billerica was caught in a loom pulley this morning. His right arm suffered two compound fractures and was amputated at the forearm. The left hand was badly burned. He was taken to St Johns hospital where he is recovering.
The Montana lower house has approved a bill to curb reckless and ill advised marriages. It bans divorced persons from remarrying, except where the innocent party to a divorce on statutory grounds. however, those involved in the original divorce may remarry each other at any time.

Edward McEnaney, 60, of Pawtucket Rhode Island, was charged in police court with assaulting his nephew John H. McEnaney of North Chelmsford with intent to murder. He was held for the March term of the superior court in $1200 bond. The case stems from a long standing family dispute over a mortgage.
Dr Thomas F Carroll expected to be nominated for the board of health by Mayor Casey. The board, largely Republican, is poised to review his candidacy next Tuesday, as it did with Dr Harrington who failed confirmation. Harrington faced only one favorable vote in a party split. The anticipated successor is a Lowell physician, likely a Democrat, with long practice and city ties. Current health board members Huntress and Jackson are Republicans. Jackson is a holdover. The board seems unlikely to confirm a Democratic appointee, keeping the board Republican. Boston announces Boott mills incorporation to revive Lowell property. start date eyed for Feb 27. The national rifle match will be held at Sea Girt New Jersey around August 22 for three or four days. Gen W P Hall from the military secretary's office at the War Department will oversee the arrangements.
