Boston February 17 The northeast snowstorm that began yesterday morning grew into the worst of the season with continued heavy snowfall and chilly northeast winds. Rail and streetcar service struggled all night with limited operation, while shipping in harbor faced delays and port traffic halted. Municipal elections across the state saw reduced turnout due to the storm.
Brockton faces a heavy storm from Sunday night into Monday with electric streetcars out of service and schools closed. A New York New Haven Hartford train reached Brockton by 8:30 am, while other lines were an hour late. Factories suspended operations as efforts were made to move stranded streetcars.
Schenectady N Y Feb 17 A severe blizzard grips the city with over 16 inches of snow since yesterday afternoon. Rail lines into Schenectady run hours late and maintenance of schedules is minimal as interurban trolleys are heavily impeded. Local railway service is nearly shut down with hopes to reopen lines by noon.
New Haven Connecticut reports heavy snow disruption. Street car service was cut off on most lines while the Fair Haven Westville main line stayed open overnight for limited runs. Railroads faced delays, though most passenger trains on the New York, New Haven and Hartford system were running with minor slowdowns.
A fierce storm swept Philadelphia with six inches of snow overnight. By morning the temperature stood at 20 degrees as winds battered streets and rail traffic remained badly hindered. Snow continues to fall today under sharp gales, disrupting transportation and daily life across the city.
A New York blizzard left surface and elevated rail lines partly crippled, with knee deep snow in parks and sidewalks still affected. The storm halted some horse car lines while the weather cooled but did not bring the expected drop in temperature. By 10 a.m. all local and suburban lines were open, with cars running to Chelmsford Tyngsboro Billerica and Tewksbury and service extending to Boston Lawrence Haverhill and Pelham showing only minor delays as plows cleared tracks throughout the city and suburbs.

Freight trains No 254 and No 249 collided at McIntire's cut on the eastern division of the Boston and Maine railroad near Biddeford Maine. Both engines derailed and three cars from each train smashed. Crews jumped to safety. Engineer Austen sprained ankle and Hamilton bruised.
