Fire department received a 5 o'clock call for a blaze at the German bakery in the Wheelock block Middlesex Street. The floor beneath the bakery furnace ignited but the fire was extinguished before substantial damage occurred.

Henry C. Howe died in Chicago after a brief pneumonia illness aged about 60. Survived by wife, son Walter, daughter Bertha Howe in Florida, two brothers, a sister, and formerly active in Lowell business as contractor and lumber dealer. He led banks and real estate holdings, served in city government and board of health, and remained a Kirk Street church regular.
The Howe brothers H C and J F Howe formed a prominent Lowell contractor firm known for mill construction across New England. Henry C. Howe managed finance and business, while John F. Howe guided engineering mastery, delivering major projects like the Tremont Suffolk Boott Appleton Machine Shop works and Washington mills in Lawrence. Their work earned a lasting reputation as among the east's best mill contractors for thirty years, with Maine as a guarantor of quality. The body will arrive home from Chicago Friday evening. Owen Farley, 81, longtime Lowell resident, died at his Gorham Street home after a career from canal wall builder to grocer and Lowell Irish Benevolent Society member. He leaves two daughters and a son, Councilman George A. Walker. Patrick Walker, brother of Dr. Hugh Walker, died last week in Rollo Bay, Prince Edward Island after ill health.
The funeral for the late EB H Warren of Chelmsford occurred Wednesday afternoon at 2 o clock from the Unitarian church. The service included a tribute to the deceased s upright life by Rev Granville Pierce and featured musical numbers by Edward FE Adams and Emma Hathaway. Members of Pewtucket lodge of Masons attended, floral tributes filled the church, and Warren s sons Joseph E and Arthur M a son in law Dr Amasa Howard and a nephew Carlton Warren served as bearers.
