Two highwaymen held up City Clerk C Fred Crawford near the police station after a boy warned him his wife needed him at home. Crawford wrestled and grabbed a revolver from one assailant, but the men fled when City Engineer Wm F Keene arrived. One suspect named Fred Kirwin, a local youth, was identified.
Chicago firemen rescued six bodies from Bennett hospital late last night sparking a heroic effort amid smoke and flames. They believed they were saving patients but later learned the dissecting rooms at Bennett Medical College were destroyed. The loss is put at 5000 with a score of patients frightened but uninjured.
A man identified as Dr. A M Gray alias Dr D M Milton alias W N Kantley, wanted for forgery in Texas Florida Mississippi and other states, was arrested by Detective Jenkins in Macon at Kathleen Ga on his way to meet his wife from Sanford Fla Police found 75 checks totaling thousands in cash on his person His wife says he is a morphine victim The St Johns Hospital bazaar committee will meet at the Institution at 3 oclock Sunday afternoon.
In Tiflis and St. Petersburg reports on Shamaka in Trans Caucasia, 200 bodies had been recovered with hundreds more presumed buried in fissures. Quakes hinder excavation as workers search collapsed bath houses and streets, while most victims are identified as Mussulmans and survivors remain outside the ruins.
Charles T. Yerkes, recently reported seriously ill, is confined to his room following a chill. He has conducted daily business and is improving, with plans to go out on February 17.
Lawrence Feb 15 An explosion of dynamite in North Andover near yesterday's site injures four Italians. They are taken to General hospital joining 9 others from prior blast for a total of 13 wounded. Lorenzo Cannoviato, seriously hurt yesterday, dies at the hospital.
Miss Lillian Mansfield identified as from Lowell was found intoxicated on State street Portsmouth New Hampshire. She pleaded guilty to drunkenness in Portsmouth police court. Judge Emery ordered a $3 fine plus costs suspended if she leaves town. She said the liquor came from a Rye boarding house keeper who left her to fend for herself. She claimed it was her first drunken episode.
Groton, Feb. 15. Theodore Roosevelt Jr has had a notably calm night and is much strengthened after pneumonia. Mrs. Roosevelt plans to travel to Washington with the convalescent boy within the week, if conditions hold. Doctors report recovery near for all the sick boys, with Theodore making the best gains while Potter lags slightly. Alice Roosevelt is due to arrive today for the family reunion at Gardner house.
London figures released show a grand total of 69,310,000 pounds for 1902 3 to sustain 420,000 soldiers including 219,700 in ordinary service and 200,300 in war service. War head totals 50,000,000 pounds, down 23,000,000 from 1901 02, enough to maintain a field force in South Africa for eight or nine months of the new financial year.
In St Louis on February 15 a grand cotton industry display from the South is planned for the 1903 World’s Fair. The exhibit will trace the fibre from boll to finished fabric with demonstrations. Mills from Charleston Atlanta Spartansburg and Charlotte will supply parts of the display under John R Kendrick who runs the textile section.

State Inspector reports Charles Donaghue was injured by a fall in an elevator well at Bigelow Carpet mills. He states the accident resulted from Donaghue's carelessness, not employer negligence, in a finding to Chief Wade via Inspector Wassey.
George W. Hough of Lowell has been granted an increased pension. A young son of Treasurer Whidden of the Central Savings bank sustained severe injuries from a fall on glass. An artery was severed in the knee and a ligament nearly cut through.
Edward Cross of S street sustained two finger injuries when his hand was caught in a gear at the Remont and Suffolk mill while at work this morning. He was transported by ambulance to Lowell hospital.

Jennings of Wellesley also indicted. several no bills and numerous suspects arraigned before Judge Lawton.

Former Attorney General John W. Griggs loses thousands in a Paterson NJ blaze as his private safe and law library burn after the doors are pried open. Eight bonds of 1000 each are among the destroyed papers, with other firms and lawyers reporting heavy losses from ruined books and bonds.
Ardmore I T Feb 15 United States Judge Townsend rules Chickasaw and Choctaw tribal courts have jurisdiction except in criminal cases and may assume jurisdiction if an Indian first seeks tribal court. The decision preserves tribal laws until March 4 1906 under the Atoka agreement, rejecting implied Congressional repeal.
San Francisco February 15 direct steamer Cotmy peakation between this city and Manila has been arranged by the joint action of Occidental and Oriental Pacific Mail and Toyo Kisen Kaisha. A schedule of nine ships from three companies will call at Manila once a month. Pacific Mail's Peru is slated to sail March 5 for the first voyage, with government aid likely limited to patronage.
Mail advices from San Francisco report a recent meeting of Nippon Yusen Kaisha Toyo Kisen Kaisha Pacific Steamship Occi dental Orient Steamship and Canadian Pacific companies decided to raise freight rates between Japan and the United States at an early date.

Joseph Bibeault alias John H. Bradley, a convicted criminal, faced Judge Hadley on larceny charges over a wagon and harness taken from undertaker Amedee Archambault. He admitted returning the wagon but kept the harness. sentenced to six months for the harness larceny after prior prison terms surfaced. Several unrelated defendants received brief jail or fine sentences for drunkenness and theft.
Peter A Fay and John L Hunt appeared in police court over the Harriet F Hall case. Fay reported the supreme court denied a writ of prohibition and asked for a hearing on Hunt’s duty to pay Hall’s claim plus costs. Judge Hadley requires superior court action on related matters before proceeding. Hunt seeks delay but both sides set Wednesday for a future assignment. Hunt also pursues a separate $135 suit for counsel fees with a supreme court judgment against Hunt totaling around $120 plus costs.

London February 15 The Lord Chief Justice Baron Alverstone refused to reopen the Poulett v Poulett case. Viscount Hinton once a street actor sought to oust his step-brother, the young Earl Poulett, from the family estates. The decision upholds the 1853 settlement barring Hinton from the property.
