Boston reports fourteen New England railroad employees held on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses in a scheme to secure leadership changes. Timekeeper William J. Coyle and passenger conductor Charles A. Messer were detained earlier. others were arrested Sunday or Monday. Names include Alfred E. Sears Daniel S. Morton Howard A. Brown and several more.
The scheme involved freight conductors and brakemen including George W. Stanley George M. Chadden Charles McGratty and John P Staples among others. Coyle confessed to doctoring time rolls from April 1896 to obtain extra pay weekly with shares for the rest of the group while others deny talking beyond accepting money found in pay envelopes. One more employee is sought in connection with the fraud.

Mrs Mary J Johnson about 55 broke her leg after a sidewalk fall near Westford street engine house at 7 am and was taken to St Johns hospital. Her home is 310 Westford street. Mary McCoy fell at 108 Lawrence street last night breaking her arm and was also treated at St Johns hospital.

Mrs. Baron read a paper while Miss Jana Sleeper performed a reading. Mrs. Kelley described women's clubs and societies, with remarks from Mrs. Dick and Mrs. Osgood. A letter from Mrs. Arthur Stanford, a missionary in India, was read by Mrs. Wm. R. Means.
Fifty members of the Centralville lodge I O O F attended in Nashua by invitation of Granite State lodge. They witnessed degree work and exchanged fraternal greetings with Noble Grand Frank Clark and Past Grands Geo H Taylor H Co Fuller and A H Cluer speaking for the Lowell brethren. A banquet followed and a unanimous vote of thanks was given to the hosts and the Rebekahs who supervised the supper.
Mrs. Martin Farrell of Dracut sued the German American Insurance Company on a contract to recover on an insurance policy. The case, heard before Judges Blodgett and Lilley, resulted in a plaintiff verdict for 1502 dollars and 76 cents. D. J. Donahue represented the plaintiff and F W Forbush of Boston the defendant.

Joseph Morgan of Chicopee aged 56 died February 15 at No 252 High Street.
