The 30th annual Massachusetts Grand Army of the Republic encampment opens in Lowell with Commander Joseph W. Thayer in charge. Veterans, posts, and allied women's groups fill Associate Hall as talks and ceremonies honor Civil War memory and unity.
A bank cashier seeking travel details to Central or South America prompted a telegraph reply from a steamship agent noting a voyage to Honduras next Wednesday as the quickest way out of the country. In a separate scene a bold new woman demanded a seat on a Euclid avenue car, joking that if you don’t get what you want you must ask for it, causing laughter among passengers.
The House foreign affairs committee studied Queen Victoria’s sympathetic remarks on US efforts for an equitable Venezuela settlement. Members expect Britain to seek an amicable solution, though the speech omits the Schomburgk line and does not bind Britain to arbitrate east of it. The President sent Cuba correspondence to the House per a resolution, with thousands of letters among Olney, De Lome, Williams, and others.
Washington Correspondent reports Knox of Lawrence, succeeding Moses T. Stevens, with a slight majority over two thousand in the 1894 tidal wave. An able new representative, he sits on the committee on territories and opposes further admissions to the union, reflecting Massachusetts sentiment on national questions.
February rents for offices at the Glidden Building 38 Middlesex Street and 19 Post Office Avenue will begin April 1. The building is advertised as the finest in Lowell with modern improvements. Callon Agent at Traders National Bank for business-only rentals without lodgers.

A Massachusetts delegate backs a minority report on altering rules and unseating past department commanders. The majority report passes at Springfield while Berkshire county and the department oppose, and the issue has repeatedly failed at Louisville. The speaker urges unity and adherence to the Order's core principles to avert ranks dissension.
The third meeting of the Ministers Religious Union met in Ayer on Tuesday February 11 with about 30 clergymen from Baptist Trinitarian Congregational Methodist Episcopal Universalist Unitarian and other churches in attendance. Rev W J Cloues of Littleton presided. Rev Mr Macdonald Concord spoke on the Sabbath principle. Rev S W Dike spoke on the American family. A telegram from Rev Fr McKenna Marlboro conveyed his regrets.
Revival services at the Centralville Methodist Church featured Rev J E Fischer preaching from Lamentations 5 16 about sin and its power. Four individuals came forward seeking prayers after an earnest appeal. The service stirred strong spiritual interest. Tonight Fischer will describe his conversion from Roman Catholicism. All are invited.
The outpatient department launches a weekly Wednesday 8 to 9 pm clinic on John Street designed to give poor women access to medical advice and treatment after work hours. Hospital managers receive credit for this forward step in community care.
In response to the desire for continued special services arrangements are made for this week. Services are at 7.45 p.m. with preaching Wednesday evening by Rev. Geo H. Johnson, Thursday by Rev. Bowley Green, and Friday by Rev. C L Merriam.
Mr. Thomas Walsh completed his 20th year as superintendent of Hamilton print works. Under his leadership production has doubled to 20,000 pieces weekly or 1,000,000 yards, marking a significant expansion in output.
