Several hotels on Front and Whitehall Streets burned. total loss around one million dollars. Fireman suffered a fatal head injury. Other fires in Saratoga and Utica caused additional damage and one death.
The Navy Department reported from Manila that armed insurgents were ordered to quit San Roque by 9 this morning. They left during the night, but a few remained and burned the village this morning. Our troops now occupy San Roque, and conditions are quiet. San Roque lies on a neck of land between Cavite and Luzon.
Vancouver dispatches say Chinese rebels raided Kuei-Fu and killed several hundred children under Catholic care. Lieut. Hobson passed Kobe en route to Manila and addressed a Christian youth group. A Pekin despatch notes Britain advising China against extending the Shanghai French settlement and pledging aid to resist French pressure.
The run of subzero temperatures hits Pittsburg Columbus and Middletown with readings from ten to seventeen below. Widespread wind and broken wires amplify the chill while Cleveland suburbs report fourteen below and Louisville reports fourteen below the 1884 record in places. Washington February 9 The House voided the committee of the whole action and effectively ruled out new public buildings for the coming year. Michael O Brien’s 50 years of priestly service with uplifting speeches by Arch bishop Williams Bishop Healy and others recounting his zeal wisdom and pure life. They honored his work at the academy and the church and pledged continued support as he enters the later years of his vocation.
St Patrick's church hosted jubilee events last night with Rev R S Burke and Mayor Crowley among speakers. John Hogan and Dr T F Harrington attended along with several clergymen. Lonergan presented a 4800 dollar check to Fr O'Brien, later increased to 5000 by gold, plus 200 from the Children of Mary. The highlight was Fr O'Brien's 25000 dollar gift plus earlier gifts totaling £30000 to the Working Girls Home. About 50 priests observed on a large platform, applauding throughout. Mayor Crowley praised the gathering and offered congratulations on Lowell’s participation.

Thomas Busby Sr died at St John’s hospital of Bright’s disease aged 53. buried Edson cemetery. Thomas McNabb funeral at St Patrick’s Church with Holy Name bearers.
