George Burgess a 27 year old painter at the Lowell Machine shop was caught in shafting while painting a ceiling. He died soon after at Lowell hospital from head injuries and skull fractures. He came from Canada with no known relatives in Lowell.
Somersworth New Hampshire February G Zervondacki a self proclaimed Greek Cretan physician was jailed in default of 509 bond for February term superior court to answer charges of practicing medicine without a license He says he was run out of Manchester Nashua and Lowell over similar charges Authorities plan to have him examined for mental condition.
The transport Thomas sails today from San Francisco for Manila with 1500 recruits and many passengers. The Grant will sail February 7 carrying additional recruits. Rosecrans left Manila January 24 with eight officers and 475 enlisted men, and the Third battalion of the 22nd infantry. The 22nd infantry is set to depart Manila today and the 20th on February 16. The Second battalion of the 17th infantry will remain at Manila until the 27th infantry arrives from this city.

Butler Pa Feb 1. The condition of Edward and John Biddle and Mrs Kate Soffel remains critical after last night’s clash with Pittsburgh and Butler police. Jack Biddle weaker, peritonitis feared, hospital likely. Soffel bullet wound in left breast has been removed. she rests easily now. Jack details escape and planned deaths, while Ed is unconscious and John shows limited recovery. Authorities plan to move captives to Pittsburgh despite Butler opposition.

Officer Breault jailed Frank X. Beaudoin for six months after a Lowell police court hearing on larceny. Beaudoin, with prior convictions in Canada and Chicago, was found sober but guilty. Other cases included Michael Sullivan cleared of assault, Faselos fined for indecent acts toward four mill workers, and a neglected child placed in care. Additional sentences were handed to James H. Bryan for drunkenness and James Beaney for three months, with Dagnan and Nonrieh paying small fines.
John F. Murphy plans a lawsuit against the City of Lowell seeking three weeks pay as assistant superintendent of streets. He has hired D. J. Donahue as attorney and a police court hearing is set for about a week from today. The action concerns Murphy's appointment by former Superintendent Brady after Brady's defeat and Brady's veterans’ preference plan.
